We all knew the minute they won the media and their cronies would be sticking the knife in.
But thatâs what happened during the last government too, so no great surprise there.
Go back and look at Labour supporterâs comments and the news headlines when the Conservatives took over from Labour last time. Youâll find it harder than it is now, but itâs what happens. Gransnet started in 2011 but it wasnât short of criticism of the new Conservative government by Labour supporters and quite possibly some Conservatives voters too, the same as not all Labour voters are blind to or defensive of whatâs going on now.

Parliament Returns Tomorrow And The 'Honeymoon' Is Over!

Monica yes I do believe that the new government mishandled the Stockport tragedy. Very inexperienced people at the helm and unable to get to grips with a very fast moving tragedy.
Do you mean Southport?

Sorry, Iâm very tired! That should say councils will be funded to extend their packages of help until April 2025!
Weâll need more meat on the bone than that announcement.
Who exactly will meet the requirements to get money? How much will it be?How do people apply, and so on.

Details are far from clear - best to wait to see what they are away from the rumours of what will actually happen as we've been presented with speculation so far. A major concern is the huge growth in teenager vaping
Vaping is the real danger, kids allowed to have become addicted and nothing done about it.
Pubs have spent money making parts of their outside space/ gardens for smokers, with patio heaters and all sorts. If it did become illegal to smoke there thatâs another dagger in the heart for all pubs which many are struggling already.I agree that children vaping is what worries me the most. The flavours are attracting them but the flavours are dangerous. Then the nicotine hooks them very quickly. The thought of children being helplessly addicted to anything so dangerous is very upsetting. That is what needs to be urgently addressed, but we know how difficult it is for adults to quit so how will children manage it? The ones already hooked will probably need addiction therapy.
Yes, that worries me, too. A nurse friend of mine said that vaping can cause wet lung which is very dangerous. Vaping was only ever meant to help people stop smoking: wasnât supposed to start up another industry based around smoking.
You think so? I can't say I've noticed. What makes you think that? I don't think the BBC would allow 'left wing as they come' reporting. Or 'right wing as they come', for that matter, so I'd be interested to hear what you're basing that on.

I suppose a less committed government could have insisted upon a recess these past few weeks rather than cancelling all leave and getting down to business.
Fact is there hasnât been a honeymoon period for Labour and am sure they will be only to glad to continue the hard work as other parties come back from their holidays and resume normal service.
At least Angela Rayner will be back from Ibiza with her fags and booze

I am looking forward to it too. PMQs, the Sunday politics show (Laura K) and Peston on a Wednesday are amongst my favourite things on TV. Whichever side Iâm on, I like wanting to throw things at the tellyđ.
Me too!
Me too. I like Question Time as well but I find Fiona Bruce can be a bit biased at times.
Yes, I'd like to see Emily Maitlis take over the QT chair.
Maitlis is as left wing as they come. No bias there then !!

Oh, thatâs alright then. Tit for tat has always been a sensible and mature way to settle differences. Ner ner ne ner ner!
What's good for the goose etc etc.

Cossy Sunak really wasnât that bad after all - just a bit of an innocent and not politically savvy.
I donât know if thereâs anything like a straight fact in politics. All I think is that the current bunch are in danger of annoying anyone stupid enough to listen to them every time they speak.âStupid enough to listen to what they sayâ
How very patronising!
That would be me then, and many other GNs!Oh dear, those kind of insults have often been thrown at Tory and Reform voters but now they are being thrown back. đ€

With any luck, there will be something put in place to mitigate the withdrawal of the WFA. I hope so, albertina.
An announcement was made yesterday or this morning that the council funding for vulnerable people until April 2025.
Like many others I wish this could have been announced sooner and that the withdrawal of WFA could have been deferred until end of 2025

I am just above the level for getting any help with the winter fuel help. I am willing to do without it, even though I am still struggling to stay warm after covid. I believe in this government and am willing to help any way I can.
You are indeed a very understanding lady. I applaud you and your attitude.

Polar22 Iâd guess Keir and his team are very aware of what was going to happen when they removed the WFA. Theyâre not stupid. There will be a plan to ease the hit on those on the margin between PC and financial ease.
Do you not think it would be more sensible then to have announced at the same time as the removal announcement that there was such a plan and thus save many pensioners from very real worry and concern?
They probably didn't have a plan then.
They have somehow found the money to pay for 15 hours of childcare per week for families on up to (but not including) ÂŁ100,00 p.a.
They know who to appeal to for the votes in future and it is not pensioners, many of whom may not be around to vote in five years' time.
Cynical? Perhaps.

True, cossy, that describes my MP, and I don't know how it can be worked out, but some decisions and events this summer imo needed parliamentary debate.
I completely agree.

Just why do they need such long holidays?
Itâs not a âholidayâ Itâs a recess of Parliament. Most MPs will take a break of up to two weeks, maybe abroad, maybe not, and then spend the rest of the time doing the second part of their role, supporting and seeing their constituents.
No honeymoon period for some of us as they quickly stopped Winter Fuel Payments. Labour have started as they mean to go on and it will get worse...before it gets worse

I agree actually: it's a historical timetable that doesn't really match the needs of the present.
Oh yes, it's Rishi's swan song. I wonder who will succeed him. At least it won't be Truss.
Just why do they need such long holidays?
There's a positive health measure quietly being rolled out as a pilot to see how effective it is:
"Public health: Life-saving NHS check to benefit 130,000 people"
These are MOT's offered at work free, confidential and not compulsory.
www.nationalhealthexecutive.com/articles/public-health-life-saving-nhs-check-benefit-130000-people
(Last bit I'm aware of public health wise: Chris Whitty and Sunak were also considering banning fast food ads until 9pm when it became clear how many children are obese, this is still as far as I'm aware on the table.
