I know there's a thread in Sport about the games but think this deserves it's own thread.
Algerian TW boxer Imane Khelif landed a huge right hand on the Italian female competitor, forcing her to quit after just 46 seconds into the bout.

I have no sympathy for them, my sympathy is for the female boxers who have devoted years of training to compete at the Olympics and have no chance of winning because they're having to fight men.

If I understand the situation, and as others have said, these boxers aren’t transgender women or people self-identifying as women. Rather women who were identified as female at birth who have now failed gender tests because they have been found to have y chromosomes/high testosterone levels. As happened with the runner Caster Semenya, who has an intersex condition.
I agree that they can’t in all fairness compete against other women on a level playing field, but I do have a lot of sympathy for them. It must be devastating to get this diagnosis, and not to be able to compete in the sport you love. And of course they get a lot of grief and abuse online.
But I still think the decision of the Olympic Committee to allow the boxers to take part is very wrong.
You are incorrect.
There is no such thing as an “intersex condition” - there are around 40 DSDs which are genetic conditions and properly called ‘disorders of sexual development.’
ALL humans born with DSD, representing only a tiny fraction of less than 1/2% of the population are either male or female. Many people with DSDs don't even realise it. These people are not some kind of “hermaphrodite” with genitalia of both sexes. DSDs are sex specific. Many DSDs do not cause ‘ambiguous’ external genitalia and can cause a number of other health issues.
The so called “trans” lobby jumped on the fact that a tiny % of humans have DSDs in order to scaffold their incredibly fragile argument that it is possible to “transition” from one sex to the other. It isn't.
Every single human alive today as well as all those who have ever lived on planet earth was either male or female. Humans have two legs - you wouldn't say that a baby born with a birth defect and only one lower limb wasn't human would you? Just so with people who have DSDs. Incidentally, most people with DSDs find it incredibly offensive to be “bundled in” with the TQ mob - their condition has nothing to do with sexuality or the perversion of some males who like to identify as something they're not.
For the record, Semanya is male - he has fathered two children with his male testicles!
Well there you go. You’re obviously an expert on the subject so I’ll bow to your superior knowledge.
But do try not to be so offensive with your comments.
Good post Beverley and as you've posted Semanya has fathered two children.
Yes I understand the issues grannygravy but not trans. To be honest I dont pretend men can be women so I try if possible not to use the term transwomen. When I am talking about men and women I am referring to sex. This sounds to me like dsd, and yes from the information we have CS has a condition which only impacts males.
To be honest lizzie I completely understand why people are angry, if you have a group pretending that men can be women, etc etc and who do access womens spaces it is easy to think this is more of that.
Now, I don’t think this person is what’s known as ‘transgender’ ( which to me means dressing up as the opposite sex), but I’m sure I read that they have a chromosomal abnormality which gives XY chromosomes, but they were designated female at birth. I did see pictures of a wee girl of about 5 or 6 which they claimed was her.
Even so, I think it should have been obvious that it wasn’t a fair fight. Don’t they have weight categories?
I like that women can be factual and unemotional
Every woman at the olympics should down tools that would soon sort it out
so how come ‘the wee girl’ fathered a child then Daddima

BlueBelle I made the same suggestion earlier. I acknowledged it’s unlikely to happen because of the effort the women out into being selected and - attempts to keep, politics out
This isn’t politics it’s health and safety. I don’t know enough but surely a basic risk assessment should have prevented this match
They call it a sport but to me, it looks like violence and I don't find that entertaining.
Did I hear right that the Italian boxer said she was afraid for her life?
I remember some years ago seeing a person who was not intersex but asexual, having been born without the sex 0rgans of either sex. They were fascinating, with no ovaries or testes they didn't produce male or female hormones, and didn't suffer from any of the stresses that hormones cause. Competing in sports would have been impossible because they literally didn't identify as either sex. I don't think I've ever seen anyone as happy in their own skin.
I think the title of the thread is misleading. She is not trans, but born female with higher than normal levels of male hormones.
This does happen rarely.
It is a daunting task for the Olympic committee , but I agree that this seems an unfair fight. I did watch it.
The daft IOC says that these two boxers who have been disqualified from other championships are designated as 'female' in their passports so they are therefore regarded as female by the IOC and eligible to enter the women's Olympic boxing competition.
The Algerian person who claims to be female appears to have a completely flat chest without breasts. The facial features appear male to me too, as does the height.
I’ve avoided the use of pronouns in my post, because like Galaxy I find it offensive to call a person who appears to be male, female.
They both carry the xy chromosome, so are biologically Males, though somehow were allowed to fight as females because they had female passports ???

Because they de decided so, presumably!
There is something very dodgy happening with the female boxing at the Olympics.
I wish all the women participants would boycott it and protest.
Even my 5 year old grandson would identify him as a man. He is obviously male.
A passport overrules a biological test that proves he is a man? As Callistemon has posted there is something very dodgy going on.

Not just that, other astonishing decisions too!
It's all very odd.
He is definitely a male and fathered two children via his testicles
Cheat, I hope he is ostracized by all the women there

Presumably he would then get a gold medal by default!
Unless the other man posing as a woman gets the gold and he gets the silver.
It's a farce.
Surely he/she/they can't be feeling any satisfaction from this win? When they're old and grey they won't be able to hold up a medal and proudly say 'I won this for punching a woman in the face and making her cry'.
Its a very hollow victory.
Has this person definitely fathered a child/children? The only reference to this that I’ve seen is on here, on GN.
I’m increasingly puzzled. I saw a picture of this person as a child, and it definitely looks like a girl in the picture. But the chromosomes are XY and it looks like a man now. I’m puzzled.
This poor athlete that you are all saying is a trans man is NOT! The athlete has the same ‘condition’ as Caster Seymenier (not sure of the spelling). They are neither man nor woman, I cannot imagine such a sad thing. Having said that I don’t think the bout should have taken place at all.
