I suspect that when someone has been sent down for a life or near life sentence, any further prosecutions seem supernumeray because the perpetrator will not get a longer sentence.
Usually these other offences are left on the file, so that if circumstances change they can be revitalised and the perpetrator prosecuted.
Yes, hard for the victims, who do not get their day in court, but these crimes are acknowledged and can be revived. They are not simply dismissed and ignored.

Boris Johnson’s appalling language and slur.
(145 Posts)For those of you who think Angela Rayner is common and not a lady, how about this from Boris Johnson.

As well as the racist connotations of the name change (and don’t forget Mrs. Starmer is Jewish), I find the rest of the words quoted by the mail in their headline quite offensive.
Worboys was sentenced to life with a minimum of 8 years in 2009. Starmer, then DPP, said this was a long sentence - see link below. Unbelievable.
Warboys was subsequently prosecuted for further offences and given a second life term with a minimum of 6 years in 2019. The CPS had originally refused to bring the 2019 prosecution.
The sentences meted out are frightening, especially given the number of victims. As is the decision of the parole board. Not my idea of justice.

No much to do with this thread. But I just posted my related comment and as always it did not appear on the site. Nor have my other, innocuous, comments on this site. Obviously something I’m not doing right. Could anybody advise? Thank you
Which threads are you trying to post on? You’ve certainly managed to post successfully just now. Did you do anything different just now?
Boris Johnson is well used to saying and doing just as he pleases, without fear of recrimination.
Why? Well, he's Boris Johnson - that's why!

Not sure. Comments go on if you post them properly. Removed posts show that they have been removed.🤔
dear me, a link from The Sun. Barrel scrapeing much?
The Worboys case is very much more complicated than Starmer freeing him.
The idea of freeing people half way through sentences came into being during Major being prime minister, and Starmer holds no sway on releasing Worboys.
Starmer didn’t free Warboys. He thought that what I’m sure we would all agree was a pathetic sentence was a good result. It’s nothing to do with letting people out halfway through their sentence, it’s when they become eligible for parole. The judge decides that would be 8 years and Starmer thought that a good result. It beggars belief.
No, Starmer thought the original judges ruling was a good result as he expected him to serve longer.
He did not praise the 8 years, post the Parole board decision, although the article sets it out to look that way.
Starmer is going to get it in the neck for all kinds of things that he’d no control over.
The main issue is the poor treatment of attacks on women and girls throughout the system. It’s one Starmer is raising now
Starmer was not involved in the case.
BJ lied and partied while people were dying.
Go figure.
Yes, Iam, here you go, it's in the Labour Party Manifesto:
"Labour pledges 80 new rape courts in bid to tackle backlog crisis
Plan for specialist unit in all police forces amid manifesto drive to reduce violence against women and girls"

Thanks Wyllow I’m a link avoider (my tech skills dire). I heard Starmer say it. I believed him.
What a mess Labour will face if/when they’re our governments
HousePlantQueen, Hi Amigo. Just echoing back.
I've just been looking at info on the Warboys case, and it is very convoluted.
Why was Worboys up for a parole hearing?
Worboys was given an indeterminate sentence when he jailed in 2009, under a scheme introduced for public protection in 2005.
Indeterminate sentences were abolished in 2012 when European judges ruled they breached human rights.
So starmer ignores a democratic vote to try to get a second referendum .i havnt forgotten that even if you have ,so where’s his integrity .?what a joke some of you are on here ,criticising the man who got you the covid jab first in the world and got brexit through .
And yes we do want him back to get rid of socialists like starmer and the classless clown Rayner for good

Well I think there was the matter of some collaboration in the pharmaceutical industry which accelerated the development of the vaccine. Admittedly the MHRA approved the vaccine so that we got it first. However, it was only a matter of about 20 days or so when it was authorised and approved by other countries, and the EU. Mass vaccinations began across the EU- about 450 million people - roughly 3 weeks later.
Considering Johnson missed about 4/5 (can't remember exactly) COBRA meetings on the matter, not to mention the PPE scandal, Track & Trace, Eat-Out-To-Help-Out - all dismal (and expensive) failures, I think we might be justified in feeling we are free to hold him to account - something we do to all politicians regardless of their achievements.
Oh, and we didn't all rejoice at him getting Brexit through either, so you'll have to excuse our ingratitude.

Rejoining the EU is not a practical aim, it requires a unanimous vote by EU members, the way we behaved during Brexit caused a lot of resentment, so they would not have us. It would be a benefit to have close ties and we should work towards that. Particularly a Customs Union and reunifying the VAT process which has been particularly difficult.
That means accepting their rules and standards, they are not going to change anything for our benefit.
Ha ha, thats cheered me up in a bizarre kind of way.
" We want him back"
No I don't
I think Zoe65 is just trying to goad us.
What part of Brexit are you enjoying the most, Zoe65?

Isn’t it nice that European Judges put the human rights of a convicted criminal over and above those of U.K. women…
Alongside the indeterminate sentence there was a (woefully short, but Starmer as DPP thought it great) minimum term, after which he could be considered for parole. A travesty.
The problem was indeterminate sentences resulted in men languishing in our over crowded prisons.
It was one of those Good Ideas that didn’t work out because our systems are poor and punative
