Young girls are being abused by gangs of all kinds, because children are being sexualised earlier there is a higher proportion going off the rails. They get involved with the “bad boys” because it’s exciting, then first it’s presents, then alcohol, then drugs. The girls are easy meat, many are in care without any effective restriction on what they do.

The police know exactly what is happening but all they can do is take the girls home knowing they will be out next day.

Wow! This is exactly the attitude that enabled these vile men to get away with their horrible criminal behaviour for so long. These girls needed and deserved to be protected just like any other girl, their situations made them vulnerable to grooming and any suggestion that they in any way contributed to what happened to them is, frankly, victim blaming of the worst sort.

In 2015 Nazir Afzal publicly stated that Asian men were disproportionately involved in grooming gangs.

Terrorism tho, is the main reason fuelling Islamaphobia, in non muslim countries.It isn’t an irrational fear and is understandable given all the awful attacks.

The big grooming gangs that were found to be almost all of Pakistani heritage in Rotherham, Oxford and other places can’t be ignored.That was the problem in the first place, police SS and teachers being worried by the situation but afraid of being called racist so turned a blind eye to it.Hope that never happens again but your post MaizieD would make sad reading for any of those girls.
It hasn’t anything to do with terrorism but is yet another reason for unease in the mind of the general public.

I just knew those grooming gangs were going to get a mention sooner or later. This isn't Islamophobia, it's racism. And deliberate ignoring of statistics by someone who claims they know all about statistics.

Dare I say as women, mothers, grandmothers we find these things absolutely appalling. But personally that does not make me phobic about Muslims.

Rondoallature I think any study of crime has always shown that certain crimes happen more in some sections of the community than others.

However, when it came to paedophiles, individually, or in groups exploiting children, the perpetrators were 100%white.

I think white paedophiles also instilled terror into the lives of those girls and boys they exploited.

It may not have the political angle to fully satisfy the definition of terrorism but it instilled terror into the lives of those girls. (Pretty sure those British Pakistanis were not Scottish Presbyterians) !!!

I doubt anyone would find these men anything but disgusting and the failure of the police and social services to protect these girls is also appalling. However, are suggesting that the Pakistani community was complicit in these criminal acts? I hate "whataboutery" but how many priests in the RC church have been convicted of gross indecency with children, how many scout masters, how many teachers in boarding schools, how many police officers have abused their position, how many politicians have lined their own pockets, how many bad people are there out on our streets doing bad things to innocent people???? Do we judge all priests, teachers, policemen, politicians, etc etc by the actions of the group who commit vile criminal acts? No, we don't and nor should we judge any community because it has a group of men doing absolutely vile things to vulnerable children, we should condemn the men who commit the acts.

I'm sure I am not unique in reading some of these posts and seeing them for what they are. Racist fear mongering. Remember Powell's Rivers of blood speech? These are in the same mould and are just as inflammatory. They are being used to create hatred and division in our already polarised society and should be challenged and resisted by every decent thinking citizen.

Perhaps someone can explain why when there are more of Hindu and Sikh heritage living in the UK that are perceived to be no threat, whereas those of Muslim heritage are perceived a major threat.

Not to mention all the attacks mounted by Right wing groups and the mentally ill.

The article initially claims it's a list of attacks between 1979 and 2021 (further attacks up to 2024 have been added. I don't see that 15%of attacks in non muslim countries over a 40 year period is any evidence of Islamic takeover.

On my count there are 7 incidents recorded in the UK. 6 in London, 1 in Manchester. Nothing in Rotherham,Rochdale, Oxford or Bristol (I suspect that grooming gangs are being brought into the argument here)

In the recent local elections it became obvious that certain council's - Oldham for one - had been notably influenced by Muslims voting against Labour according to the (religious) conflict between Israel and Gaza.

I don't want my council or government in my country determined by the seemingly eternal conflict thousands of miles away, largely and overwhelmingly dictated by male politicians who think blowing each other to pieces is the answer to everything. They never learn.

But it's the women who have to clear up the carnage.

And Heaven forbid we get another 5 years of the Conservatives.

Vague allegations are often the basis of Islamophobia, trying to create fear. Terrorists apart, we need to build. bridges not set up stations of possible hate and fear.

This said, 09/11, 07/07, Rotherham, Rochdale, Manchester, Oxford, Bristol, Charlie Hebdo, Boston marathon, lee Rigby, Madrid. 14356 killed as a result of Islamic violence from 09/11 to the beginning of 2016 and the rate is increasing daily. Are we really too afraid to admit this? These figures are ample grounds for fear…hence the suffix “phobia”

I don’t believe I said it was! But there is enough other evidences to show many Muslims have successfully interested into our western society, many have been peacefully living and working here for decades.

The problem is of course that no-one goes around 'checking out' the number of Muslims who are here, have been for some time, and are integrated and living normal humdrum lives like anyone else.

I've mentioned, anecdotally, the Muslim family in my street - doing just that. They're very much involved in local - boring - issues like moving the bus stop to a more convenient location, garnering volunteers to make our town look more acceptable to tourists, etc, etc. But, as I said, purely anecdotal - however, I cannot believe that they are unique and we happen to have just one of a minority family in our town.

But, it wouldn't make headline news.

A day in the life of Mrs Aziz starting with taking the kids to school, is hardly going to make riveting reading.

I don't obviously know the 'intimate' details of the family life of the family mentioned. I do know they don't drink - but do go to the pub ocassionaly to socialise, particularly if there's been some interesting 'event' in the town. They also attended the funeral of a close neighbour in our local church.

Are they unique? I don't think so personally.

On the other hand, I do understand the fear (or phobia) generated by fundamentalists who have hijacked the religion to fulfil their agenda.

Growstuff. I have provided a reference to justify the figures. Also my students would rebutt any pity from your direction..they would simply wave their examination certificates your way. Dataphobia is another fear, that of facts, especially when the facts don,t support one’s dogma or prejudices.
