It's shocking that people are attacked while working in schools.
My DD and SiL have left teaching for many reasons and attacks by students was one of them.

So has my DD AGAA4.

My ' child ' has also left teaching . Behaviour of students had deteriorated, teachers no longer have the respect of their pupils. Many parents unable / unwilling to accept that their child is rude and badly behaved. Obviously not all children/ parents but enough to make teaching very difficult indeed. The stress is unbelievable!! AC now in a very different job , less money but less stress!!!!!

It isn't like the Dunblane massacre GSM. That was a madman shooting small children. This is a pupil turning on her teachers and fellow students.

I was a teacher but thankfully my three have chosen different careers.

It’s horrible. Unfortunately it’s been happening in UK schools for years too. Last year a boy stabbed a young male teacher in Tewkesbury, the year before one boy stabbed another somewhere in Cumbria. Knives must be easy to carry and difficult to detect without searching pupils.

Knives are one of my greatest fears.
My Husband is a Teacher - he has been physically assaulted by a pupil (not with a knife).
They do regular bag searches at his school - no knives yet.
I also worry about knives when my son & his girlfriend go on nights out.
Either of them could be stabbed by some random without realising.

It’s absolutely shocking and not the first time, there needs to be more checks unfortunately upon entering schools, maybe airport type metal detectors. Awful and tragic

My 2 granddaughter's, aged 12 and 14 , no longer go to school. They're home schooled now , just too many incidents at school. Teachers have no control over the kids

Young adults need to socialise and bond together. As lockdown has proven, isolation breeds anxiety and insecurity.

No, lockdowns and learning online have caused a lot of problems for children, social anxiety being one of them.

Thirty years ago, my friend's husband, who was a teacher at a comprehensive in Birmingham, had to escort an injured child to hospital. The child had been shot in the leg by a fellow pupil.

How would protection be accomplished?

I personally don’t think children should be home schooled for ‘their safety’ children need to be with other children to learn how to navigate socialising They have to go out into the world they need to learn how and that’s even more important than maths and English

A 13 year old girl has been arrested

My son was assaulted in school by a gang of thugs fellow pupils. He came home bleeding with a broken nose.
We parents were told "boys will be boys" and "there is no bullying in our school"
This was over 30 years ago. Luckily there were no knives involved.
He didn't want to return to school after that and we were able to move him to another school although it meant a 30mile round trip everyday.

Socialisation is all very well but throwing your child into the lions' den is not always a great idea.

DS was much happier at the new school and thrived.

Forty years ago, two of us teachers removed a knife from a threatening teenager, so this is not new.
Imo there are 2 sorts of situations. One us where the kid is generally waving a weapon around. The other is where they bring the weapon into school with the specific intent of harming a particular person, whether it's a teacher (Leeds a few years ago?) or a pupil.

All this stuff about teachers not being in control, I'm afraid makes me very cross. Right wing media making teachers' working lives so much harder.
