It is morally wrong that women asking for single sex provision as provided in the equality act are described as intransigent.
Thank God for intransigent women, they have just saved thousands of children from a medical scandal.
I am proud to be intransigent.

Is JK Rowling pushing the boundaries too far?

Well pigeons, cat and among , but with reference to the particular examples she instances I am team JK.
Scotland is digging a massive hole for itself with regard to so-called “hate crime” and if it wasn’t that 1984 was 40 years ago I’d say it had arrived.
Me too. I feel mixed emotions today. It’s good to have it acknowledged that we have been on the right side of history, and that this will be looked at more sensibly going forward. I still feel for the victims though, and worry for the high number of children who’ll be confused and concerned just now. I hope they get some reassurance soon.

Quite.
It's not about us - it's about the children.
My God, do we ever need some serious re-organisation of mental health services. No child should have to wait for months and months to access them.
How government ministers sleep at night is a mystery. They’ve decimated camhs with children waiting years to be seen. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the Cass report led to properly funded servuces
Caleo
Callistemon, before there are adequate facilities in public places, there has to be political will to build the architectural infrastructure. Conservatives won't do it as they seek sort term profits .
We've got a Labour Council. We have public loos.
It's just that they're locked much of the time presumably because they are used for other purposes.

If they do manage to access them the service is inadequate anyway.

It's morally wrong that transgender people suffer from inadequate provision of comfortable safe toilets and changing rooms, and intransigent elderly.
It’s morally wrong that anyone suffers from inadequate provision of comfortable safe toilets and changing rooms.
But you seem to be saying that females should give up their existing provision of comfortable safe toilets and changing rooms.
Can you explain how that can that be right?
Your sweeping intransigent elderly shows how out of touch or deliberately blinkered you are being.
Complaints about males in female changing rooms, both in shops and in sports changing rooms,
in female saunas,
in female hospital wards,
come from a wide variety of age groups, including teens, twenties, thirties and older.
Even primary children, once they begin to develop in year 4, 5, and 6 prefer to change separately and many primary schools have tracksuits that children wear to come to school on PE days.
Are you saying they are all wrong?
I don’t disagree with your concern for trans, but I do disagree with removing equal concern for females to satisfy the trans needs.
Your sweeping intransigent elderly shows how out of touch or deliberately blinkered you are being.
It was an astonishing statement.
Have you ever looked at Mumsnet, Caleo?
We are gentle, tolerant souls in comparison.
Women have always been called things like 'intransigent' when a man doing the same thing would be 'determined', or 'have the courage of his convictions'. The comment is not only ageist, it's offensively sexist, too.
Now then, we mustn't get hysterical ......
Good posts at 19.30 and 19.37 Callistemon
I popped over to the Dark Side earlier. Fantastic to see the righteous anger being expressed about the attacks on Cass. Gives me hope
The cass report was partly due to the women of MN. It provided a space for GC voices to be heard. There have been lots of brave women who deserve credit but Justine who runs MN is one of them.
It seems instead that the 'be kind' lot were the 'dark side' all along. Who would have thought it.
Galaxy - I hope you saw my post as irony - I absolutely agree with you, the ‘be kind’ lot were/are the dark side
It’s like being liberated, to read the Cass report and feel validated after being accused of bigotry, of being the kind of people who would have opposed gay marriage and more
Yes I did Iam64

... intransigent elderly Wow!
Substitute "trans people" for "elderly" - sounds bigoted doesn't it?
I suppose we are uncompromising in our belief that the spaces women have fought for should not be compromised; nor that we should be compelled to accept the belief - one which flies in the face of established medical science - that men can become women if they so choose?
Is a transwoman who insists that TWAW any less intransigent, I wonder.
Caleo, why not substitute female where you put transgender and transgender where you put elderly. Then read it.

Mollygo, intransigence especially among the elderly is a statistical fact.
It's true that public retreats ,that's to say 'toilets' to use the somewhat smelly word , are inadequate for women not to mention people with babies , toddlers, and disabled people who may have special needs for changing facilities .There ought to be adequate, even comfortable provision for all.
There is a special lack of moral support for trans people who are people who include mothers, carers, and disabled as their individual cases may be.
If 'public toilets' were adequate they would be comfortably and safely unigender and unisex like any decently managed hotel , hospital, retirement home, school. or restaurant.

I tend to call them lavatories.
Is that worse?
Or loos in polite company.
It is the intransigent women who have highlighted the medical scandal of our age, thank goodness for those women. It is the biddable people who have allowed this to happen.

Old men and old women, statistically , are not good at changing their ideas. I used 'intransigent' as it is does not evaluate.
I imagine that Florence Nightingale would have considered the male army authorities bloody stubborn dinosaurs if she had had this year's vocabulary!

It is an intransigent man who has persisted with the other great scandal of our age - The Post Office.
Thank goodness for persistence.
Perhaps a better description would be indefatigable or tenacious.
Old or young.

Abso-bloody-lutely.
Callistemon, the history of names for places dedicated to these natural functions is interesting. I think it's true that most healthy mammals not only humans do pay special attention to keeping their waste products away from other activities. The changing words humans have for these locations reflect the need to keep the locations separate.
Callistemon , Alan Bates is not intransigent due to moral turpitude, or a fairly common disability of old age. His intransigence is due to his moral principles and his courage
