The vote on the call for ceasefire in Gaza

Absolutely Westendgirl. The SNP started the political shenanigans by bringing forward a motion that they knew would be difficult for Labour. If the SNP cared so much about a call for a ceasefire why did they ‘spit their dummies out’ when their name wasn’t going to be against the motion? Surely, all they wanted was a call to ceasefire!

Actually I did but not by name. '..how disgraceful it is that our Parliamentarians use such suffering to try to manipulate political advantage...'. by that, I meant the SNP. They most certainly were trying to cause mischief by their motion, but were within their rights to do so.

SNP have been calling for a cease fire for months...no one in the other parties was listening.Thats why they had to use their Paliamentary RIGHT to put it to the house .Labour should have let it go forward as it stood.Otherwise we're wasting our time sending our representatives to Westminster...or is your opinion the the Scottish voters should only have opinions on road signs ? The SNP have the majority of Scottish seats and I can assure you that the electorate who put them there want OUR opinions heard.We particularly want the Israel/Gaza situation to be kept current in minds and hearts.War Criminals is exactly what Netanyahu and his IDF MOB are so why not tell the truth.Yesterdays fiasco will only bring more people to understand what the ENGLISH parliament thinks of the devolved nations ....that we can and are walked over at every available instance

I watched the whole of the debate yesterday and the only person to speak gains a ceasefire was Miriam Cates - she is also being investigated for bringing parliament into disrepute.

Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other Commonwealth countries together with the EU have all demanded a ceasefire.

They clearly don’t think it is a waste of time, and frankly neither do I. Saying nothing is tantamount to agreeing with the continued slaughter.

People feel better for having said something. It changes nothing.

Paddyann, no mention of the hostages in your rant, I presume you approve of their incarceration. No calling upon Hamas to put down their arms, stop using innocent Palestinians as human shields, and to stop hijacking and stealing such aid as is going into Gaza? Some is now being dropped by air by wicked old Briton in conjunction with Jordan. Let's hope this actually finds its way to the people it is meant for? Bearing in mind Hamas did start this conflict in the most hideous manner imaginable, something that is now being conveniently forgotten,I think some blame can be firmly put at their door.

We have a MP in our extended family, it really is a thankless task.

The two people responsible for this debacle are Keir Starmer who ignored convention and precedent to visit the Speaker to 'urge' him to accept his amendment, and had not the wit to anticipate the danger this would bring, and Lindsay Hoyle, who had not the courage to resist the 'urging' of his Leader, or the sense to listen and follow the advice of his Clerk of the Court.

Both deserve to lose their positions; Hoyle has lost all credibility in the House, and I do not believe Starmer faced a long tenure as Labour leader once the Election is past, whatever the result, even before this mess. It is those who are lined up in the shadows to replace him that are the main concern.

More responsible surely, Easybee, are the SNP who deliberately put in a mischief-making motion on one of the most serious issues facing the country.

Some situations just don't fit the rules and it's wise to accept that. The baying for people's heads when things go wrong is most unpleasant.

I’m planning to watch ch4 news. On what I’ve heard on various radio reports, and read in newspapers,I’ve revised my view on the speaker.
It would be a shame to see him lose his position over this. I believe him and Starmer when they deny Starmer ‘bullied’ him. Hoyle spoke with genuine emotion about the threats he knew were being made to mp’s. He talked about his duty of care influencing his decision, which on reflection he acknowledges was a mistake
