Tea supplies will be tight!

For the poster who wondered about tea leaves being past their best, I was once told that it would be theoretically possible to drink tea from leaves in the pyramids. I’m not sure l would want to try that but the best before dates are a guide and tea never really expires

It was me, thank you. It would only be in an emergency, a set of rather nice small gift tins bought for us umpteen years ago which seemed too nice to open!

DH heard the same thing about honey found in a Pyramid, apparently it would have been fine to eat!

My DH is a hoarder (the house is kept tidy by my Herculean efforts). He cannot resist a bargain and three for the price of two or reduced prices - special offer are among his favourite words in the English language. Thus we already have a stockpile of tea, enough to withstand any apocalypse. It was the same with the toilet rolls at the beginning of Covid. He is unbearably smug and tells me that what I call hoarding is actually saving/prepping for an emergency and that he has been proved right. As tea is my favourite drink, I am grateful in this instance.

Big boxes of Typhoo and Tetley seemed to be in short supply, but the shelves are heavily stocked with all those things like tea pigs and rooibos or anything too expensive to stop pile really.

I went to our specialist tea shop here in France today and she hadn't heard of shortages yet. I stocked up on loose-leaf Assam and Grand Yunnan and she agreed to put some on one side for us if things get worse. 😂

I did ask DH if Australian and New Zealand wines would be adpffdcted.

And wondered if we needed to share a tea bag.

But all sold out in Waitrose today!!

We bought the brand grown in Dorset 😁, it's one of DH's favourites.

I prefer tea too but I am picky and only drink the brand beginning with T and ending in S in a yellow or orange coloured box.
If that gets in short supply it will be gin - not fussy about the brand though.

Has to be china and a cup and saucer made in a teapot, not a mug and a tea bag waggle.
When I was little eons ago some of the old men drank tea out of special large saucers. I think perhaps it is an Irish habit though some novelists talk about a dish of tea.

Has anyone noticed the limited choice in loose leaf tea?
we usually buy in Sainsbury or Waitrose, only really brew
for visitors including family.
We like Assam or Lapsang Souchong in the afternoon or evening as its lighter.

I have Yorkshire on order atm, now checking to see if they honour the price at the time of order or if it has increased.

If the media hype it up more than they already have, then you can bet your bottom dollar that stockpiling will happen (unless supermarkets wisely restrict how much you can buy at one time), and prices will rocket (that goes without saying - the slightest excuse is all that’s needed).

No shortage of the decaff ones I buy for my husband in Sainsbury's today. It was cheaper however to buy two packs of 40 instead of one pack of 80 if you had a nectar card.
I've got enough of the ones I prefer to last me until next year (half a pack of 40) as it something I very rarely drink.

No sign of shortage in Tesco yesterday plus there were plenty of their cheapest own brand.

The woman in the next checkout At Sainsburys yesterday morning had 8 large boxes of tea bags in her trolley! And nothing else! She was blithely telling the cashier that she was then off of Tesco to do the same there! What is that all about!! Surely sainsbury should have limited purchase numbers! Does not really bother me as I don’t like tea anyway! What’s next???

That's shocking some people are so selfish, why would anyone need that amount of tea? fancy boasting about it at the till, makes that person look an idiot. I remember the panic when Covid hit and we were all told to stock up with paracetamol but there would be individuals who'd buy up all the stocks, until everyone was limited to one packet.

Incidentally the tea isle appeared to be well stocked at Sainsburys yesterday, but I suppose that won't last if ridiculous people bulk buy in that "I'm alright Jack, pull up the ladder" manner and yes once it becomes a thing supermarkets should be proactive in limiting how much any one person can purchase.

I stocked up yesterday so will be fine this year.

My Sainsbury seems to run very low on tea bags regularly. We needed tea so i did buy a large box his morning. Very few eggs on shelf this morning only very expensive ones then i remembered it was pancake day yesterday.

Sago, if the worst happens, may I come to you? If there are no teabags I will be most distressed, and, therefore, disgruntled. That is a very dangerous combination..
