I feel appalled and sad in equal measures for this poor woman! An 11 year boy was with her (her grandson, who’d lost his own mum a few years ago)
I live in Essex and Jaywick is a particularly deprived area and full of people on the poverty line and I’ll hazard a guess that these dogs were (wrongly) bred to sell.
This woman and her grandson should never have been in this room with two large dogs and their puppies, I’ve seen the news and seen a family member interviewed. The poor woman was advised by the dogs owner, (where was he?) who is a family member, to use a broom handle if the puppies started to “fight” each other! She did this, and unsurprisingly, the parent dogs attacked her! Luckily the grandson ran out of the house.
This is a horror story!
Dogs are not the issue, owners are! A blanket ban on specific dogs will not and does not work.
What we need is dogs to be licences again, all large dogs to be muzzled in public, better checks on all breeders.
ALL dogs are potentially dangerous with poor owners.
Dogs that have deliberately bred, and trained, to be aggressive will always be a danger. More needs to be done to stop this and dog fighting.
My heart goes out to this family, but what on earth was this owner and family members thinking?
Only 50% of middle age adult manage more than 1 brisk 10 min walk a month.
