We all know what it's like trying to get small children organised for a holiday - clothes, cuddlies, precious toys, entertainment for long flights ...

ixion I've never forgotten neighbours we had years ago who just took off, did a moonlight flit. We think she realised that another neighbour and I were on to her because she was physically abusing the children, one strange injury after another. We were going to contact the NSPCC. They just must have stuffed a few things into bags and gone.

While it in no way excuses vile behaviour, it does up to a point, explain it (or in your words "answer questions") in Darwinian terms. I found it interesting. I thought of it as soon as I saw the news item and this thread.

I'm not being crass here, but I just wonder how, if Sara died in the family home, anyone could arrange a dramatic departure with five children while the poor little one lay dead?

How could all this be gathered together without (some of the) 5 children realising something was amiss? Did none of them ask where Sara was and why she wasn't coming with them?

Yes, we’re told they’re appearing in court later today. They’ll be remanded in custody until the case comes to court.

I agree we shouldn’t make any prejudicial comments, but I think we can comment generally.
I’m wondering what will happen to the other children who are left behind in Pakistan. I’m hoping that arrangements can be made for their return to the UK very soon because they will be very disturbed by the disruption to their usual lives and routines.

They were arrested on the plane when it landed in Britain.
It is the thought of that little girl lying alone and dead in that house that is so disturbing.

Were they arrested when they arrived in Britain? I didn’t see any news after the six o clock bulletin and so I don’t know if they’ve arrived here yet. I was talking to my grandchildren and daughter in New Zealand for an hour when the evening news would have been on and so missed any possible updates.

The father, stepmother and uncle have been arrested.

We don’t have the detail but, as these children were born here they may be British citizens. The paternal grandfather’s poor cooperation with authorities in Pakistan may help prevent him gaining custody
We don’t have details of Sara’s death but we do know she suffered extensive abuse over a period of time. There’s enough information imo to say these children should return to the UK to allow proper assessment of their needs

I’m so pleased the three adults are returning to the UK, in business class on Emirates, according to the BBC news this evening. It was stated that they were not under arrest. I wonder if we will ever find out what happened to little Sara as I think it unlikely these three will be forthcoming with the truth.

How familiar are they with Pakistan?
Do they have any responsible relatives to care for them?
What will happen to them if the family gain control?
What a nightmare.
