diamondlily - if the test results were not sent to private contractors until the Monday, as you say, and the Home Office weren't told till Wednesday, then maybe the contract isn't very good - and maybe the government should have got the residents off on Wednesday instead of Thursday/Friday... ?

Well, I relayed my experience (in 1986), and just lifted the article from the Independent.
It does seem sloppy, because LD can be and often is, lethal.
Especially if your physical resistance is low.
No, the contract doesn't seem too good, but we have seen this, endlessly, during Covid, with the government and private contractors falling down on the job.🙄
To be fair, this could have happened at any hotel, or centre, because it's not about barges, it's about doing the normal health checks with a duty of care towards "guests" and staff.
