Ouch! My respect from the speaker has increased hugely.

She is always arrogant and condescending. She's treated her constituents like that from the day she was elected. It seems as though other MPs are getting the same treatment. She's out of her depth and I'm glad that somebody has put her in her place for once - not that she'll even care! She treats everybody with contempt.

Mine too. I was a fan of John Bercow (I know he's not universally liked, but I think a speaker needs to be very firm about the law, and keeping rogue politicians in line), and thought that Lindsay Hoyle seemed quite weak by comparison, but this has changed my mind.

He gets very angry about things like that and quite rightly so. But it annoys me that he seems to come down very heavy on MP’s who spend what he regards as too much time when speaking in parliament: I’ve noticed that he is much more critical of the opposition parties. I’m very disappointed in him as Speaker. I also wish he would insist on MP’s actually answering the questions they are asked.

I thought pmqs yesterday was pretty poor. What is the point of personal attacks when that’s nothing to do with the important issues facing a lot of people now? I think a code of conduct should be brought in …..

It wasn’t at Question Time, it was this morning.

I find him a very poor person to be the Speaker. He may be a nice man but not in control in HoC. Ill watch this telling off and just hope im impressed for once.

That doesn’t matter when a cabinet member is breaking the rules though, this should be about what she did, not about him - any speaker would have rebuked her seriously.

I wrote to the Speakers office last February to complain about the way that Hoyle had spoken to Caroline Lucas at PMQT. He was downright rude to her: the government benches at the time were like a baying mob. It was round about the same time that Johnson made his accusation regarding Starmer and Jimmy Saville and I complained about that too. Although Johnson’s comment was redacted it wasn’t done so as publicly as it should have been done. I know Berkow was a hard act to follow but Hoyle is very disappointing. I never got a reply.

I think Hoyle is ok really, couldn’t stand Bercow who was arrogant and sarcastic.
He does tell all sides off when needed, but allows things to flow without treating MP’s like naughty school kids.

I do wish however that Hoyle had found the cogliones to put in his place Johnson, rather than a woman Junior minister- even though she deserved it. So did Johnson, time and time again.

But yes, ANSWER THE QUESTION or be cut out and ask to sit down.

I don’t think that’s true, he tells both sides to pipe down.Could be that the times you watch it the opposition MP’s are rowdier.

Oh well if my grandsons spoke to anyone the way MPs do, they would be told to rethink and apologise. Clearly too polite to join the political class..
