Nike Sports Bras

Well done Sharron Davis for calling on women to vote with their feet and not buy Nike Sports bras apropos of their latest advertising campaign.

I've bought sports bras, a very necessary item when as a woman you have larger breasts that need to be kept from moving around at the gym or for those who indulge in playing active sports. What is the point therefore of seeing a trans woman, Dylan Mulvaney model this item of clothing when they don't appear to have any breasts, surely there are plenty of sportswomen of all sizes who could have been used in such a campaign. As a business, sales are paramount, I wonder just how many women are going to be antagonised by this and boycott Nike as a result of this advertising campaign.

And trans women is a recognised term. You can disagree if you like, but it is what it is.

I think the point is that it is fairly pointless to choose someone who doesn't have breasts advertising a bra which is supposed to support breasts when the wearer is undertaking sport.

It is not clever marketing.

I'm still waiting for the first company to use a transman to advertise something to men, after all isn't 'inclusivity' the be all? I shan't hold my breath. If they had to use a transwoman they could have chosen one actually on oestrogen who had developed breasts. Inclusivity would be showing people in wheelchairs, people who are blind or deaf, with missing limbs, with prominent birthmarks, with skeletal defects that cause twisting of the body etc but no only transwomen and drag queens feature, and the compliant go along with it, and congratulate themselves for being so 'inclusive'.

My understanding is that this wasn't actually a Nike advertisement. Nike paid an influencer to post pictures of their clothing, which isn't quite the same thing.

I have no idea who follows this influencer. I know I wouldn't and I'm guessing most people who buy sportswear don't either. Maybe Nike want to appeal to a niche audience.

Sports bras should be modelled by women. Not by pretend women.

Huge respect for Sharon Davies. No Nike purchases in our family.
