When I was younger, everybody knew that you didn't talk about cases that were "under" the police. Even wee bairns knew that if you talked about it and either gave something away, or accused somebody of something, or whatever, then that wasn't allowed. Whether it was about the laddie who stole sweeties from RS McColl or about the Prime Minister, you didn't talk about it, much less put it in writing.
Private Eye have a shed-load of lawyers at their back and I'm quite sure they phrase things to make sure they stay on the side of the law. I don't expect many Grans have phalanxes of lawyers behind them. (Except maybe GSM
