The Tories are finished everywhere, that doesnt mean it wont damage parties that become involved in this issue. It tends to make parties look foolish or tends to drag them into safeguarding issues or hate speech issues.
As I say violent misogyny, plenty of examples of this time and time again.

Sometimes I am ashamed
(340 Posts)Fully expecting to be shot down in flames, I never thought I would see the like and am nevertheless ashamed of the country of my birth.

POLICE have launched an investigation after placards calling for women to be decapitated were displayed at a pro-transgender rights rally attended by SNP politicians
MPs Alison Thewliss, Kirsten Oswald, Stewart McDonald and MSP Kaukab Stewart were pictured in front of a sign that said “decapitate terfs” next to an image of a guillotine at a protest in Glasgow on Saturday.
Another homemade sign appeared to call for terfs, an acronym for “trans exclusionary radical feminist” which is often used to describe women who do not believe males can become female, to be eaten.
I do not recognise “my” homeland Scotland
They are all tarnished by action and/or inaction. I know so many women who are struggling to decide who to vote for because of this.
I don’t know if the backpedaling will start now, or if they’ll double down. One of Teresa May’s advisors has written an article saying that autogynephilia is responsible for much of what passes as ‘being in the wrong body’. That wouldn’t have happened a year ago, so it’s progress. He’s a Tory of course, so it’s a bit like snakes and ladders
. Still, now it’s been said (in the Telegraph) others can say it too, so we’re maybe getting there. As an election gets closer I think more politicians will get off the fence. I really hope so.

I saw that Tweet, too, Terribull
Did you see JKR's response? 😂
There speaks a male!
JaneJudge I am with you all the way.
Give thanks to N Sturgeon she has allowed this to happen, she actively promotes it and want the age of decision to be 16, those with sons know just how stupid that is, love my boys but half off them you wouldn’t trust to take the bins out sometimes.
She is a very bitter woman, it shows in her face and attitude, she wants out of England at any cost, looks permanently angry with those pinched lips. These protestors I wound think are employable elsewhere, why are they still in office? They have her back up that’s why. I think they all bullying misogynists. Don’t be ashamed Maw, Scotland is a lovely country with great people who don’t want this. These awful people should feel shame, it’s not about Scotland it’s about getting their way and think England will follow suit. If they try it there will be trouble , we don’t won’t it. I and others are fed up at being told what to think by these nutters.
.
Nicola Sturgeon agrees that when it comes to sentencing young offenders consideration must be given to the fact the human brain is not fully mature until age 25. She thinks any 16 year old is fully able to make a lifelong judgement about transitioning, with no input from any professional or other adult. She doesn't think a 16 year old has the necessary judgement to decide to have a pint of beer in a pub. Hmmm.
she wants out of England at any cost
We're not in England.
Might be appropriate to remember that while you're complaining about how another woman looks and slagging her off because you don't like her lips? Dear God, the lack of self awareness in some posters is astounding.
However sensible and mature I thought myself at 16. I can see very clearly that I was not experienced and knowledgeable enough to make any lifelong decisions at that age.
Actually, I think I realised it at the time. I was doing A level English and one of the books we were studying was Middlemarch, by George Elliott. This book is a study of marriages, about half a dozen of them and, at 16, I thought this a totally unsuitable book to study because it was dealing with matters about which we, the student body, had little or no knowledge.
Rereading the book many years later, my perspective and understanding of the book, made me realise how right my 16 year old judgement of my lack of information to judge was.
You can get married at 16 in Scotland.
And join the army.
And vote.
And order a pint with your pie and chips.
you can get married and join the army at 16 in England too and you can also drink alcohol with a meal as long as someone over 18 is with you and buys it on your behalf
I'm not sure I'd want my 16 yo getting married and joining the army though, in all honesty
The minimum age of marriage in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be raised to 18 on 27th Februaary 2023

Yes you can. And you can go overseas and sign up with the Taliban.
And your point Mollygo?
Just to be objectionable?

I'm never sure of the point of dredging up all the things that people can do at a given age, to suggest that they should be allowed to do other things.
Yes, you can marry and do other things, but what have any of them got to do with transitioning? It's false equivalence and makes no logical sense. At 12 you can buy fish and chips, but not see a 15 certificate film. So what? Does that mean that the age for buying fish and chips should be raised, or that 12 year olds should be able to see films with a 15 certificate? Or neither? Or both?
Should we have an age limit, do you think, for making offensive jokes about terrorist organisations?

You are ashamed MAW but I’m frightened for my young granddaughter and all young girls. We are going backwards to putting women in a closed society. Don’t these women with men’s tackle realise what they are doing to us.
They are not women with men's tackle and until you stop aiding and abetting these men in their delusions and vicious cancelling womenkind how will it ever be stopped? Men have tackle. Men.

And your point Mollygo?
Just to be objectionable?
No, just pointing out some of the other things you can do at 16, as others have.
I wasn’t being objectionable.
I didn’t think you were, but who knows?
I'm fizzing about that pathetic person with the placard, just as I was at the moron who posted on Twitter that someone should drive their car into the counter demonstration.
Just to clarify for you volver there was no 'counter-demonstration'. There almost never is for trans events.
The car threat was about a Posie Parker event to be held in Glasgow in February.
Transactivists seem to think that completely over-the-top aggression is de rigeur for those events (see pics).
Also, see pic of the decapitate sign being publicised by a pub which held a sign-making session.
So the sign was seen by more than the maker of it and, apparently, all thought it was fine.
There is no need to be ashamed of your country of birth Maw. Most of us are not like those aggressive types, and are also not like the apparently clueless politicians who didn't spot what was written on the signs.

The whole issue has become politicised (eg describing a free vote in the SG, which saw cross party support and dissent as only the SNP's 'Bill')
It wasn't a free vote. All MSPs were whipped except the Tories.
Here is David Torrance MSP saying clearly that he was just following orders.
He gave it no thought at all.

Was that to me?
Er, no. I think.
One person's offensive joke is another's iconoclastic witticism, as has been discussed on here many times, but I don't know what age has to do with it.

Whereas you clearly gave some thought to using words he didn't use, in order to suggest parallels with extremist groups of the past.
It's pathetic.
Vile misogyny. Threats to decapitate and eat women.
Just so people are reminded about what we are talking about.
Yep it's as creepy as it sounds.
VS only men can be transwomen. That is a biological fact and it's not vile to say so.
We are repeatedly told that gender identity and sex are different things, but then that gender identity should be taken as if it is sex at all times.
If people could be honest about which sex they are, while presenting however they want, there'd be no objection from me or from most other GC people.
