Says something doesn’t it about Labour and the Lib Dem’s when, in an effort to bring Boris down, they have to field candidates? I’d be miffed if I were say a Labour voter (or a Labour MP let’s not forget!) in a constituency and I had to ‘stand aside’ to let in a Lib Dem ‘for the common good’.

I do wonder if, in reality, the voting public will be entirely happy with this cosy arrangement?

Yes, I think they will be very happy indeed if it keeps the Tories out at the next election. As a Labour supporter living in an area where it’s a choice between a Tory or Lib Dem MP I’m used to it.

In both the recent by-elections there were Labour and LibDem candidates . No one "stood asise "

The voters chose to back the candidate most likely to beat the Tories.

It was telling however that Labour high command didn’t visit Tiverton & Honiton! Did Ed Davey visit Wakefield? Not sure. Bet not...

And Johnson didn't visit any of them...

PR won't happen before the next GE, so voters have to grit their teeth and vote for the candidate they think will best be able to achieve what they want (which it would appear to be to send the Conservatives a message they want change).

Not sure about next time with all that's happened since then.

Apart from once, I've always voted LibDem anyway because their policies are the closest match to what I would like. It doesn't matter anyway because the Conservatives have such a huge majority, but I'd vote Labour if I thought they had a fighting chance.

I’d guess there are very few constituencies where it’s not a direct choice between Tory and either Labour or Lib Dem. That bodes well.

Yes, it was strange he didn't visit Tiverton as he was only 30 minutes away at the family farmhouse on Exmoor a week earlier.

Wasn’t he in hospital for a planned procedure?

Shame he had to fly and apparently went swimming after a sinus op, when he would have been given instructions that both were off limits.

Actually, from something the Tiverton and Honiton Conservative candidate said, I suspect Johnson might have been told that his appearance might not have helped her campaign.

Both were probably safer for him than travelling to Tiverton or Wakefield.

Well obviously he had to be in Rwanda. It was CHOGM. One of the things he has to take responsibility for is going to CHOGM. But he could still have visited Tiverton and Honiton, and Wakefield, last week.

But, he's given us all his thoughts and views on pay rises for public service workers, (but not, obviously, MPs, as they got a big pay rise recently):?

"Boris Johnson warned yesterday that there is ‘no point’ in giving workers bumper pay rises because it would push up prices even further.

Teachers, nurses and doctors have threatened to go on strike unless they are handed double-digit salary hikes.

But the Treasury has told public sector workers they should instead expect rises around the 3 per cent mark.

Asked if teachers, nurses and doctors should only get 3 per cent rises, he told ITV News: ‘At a time when you’ve got inflationary pressures in an economy, there’s no point in having pay rises that just cause further price rises because that just cancels out the benefit.

‘I think – I’m pretty certain of this – that our inflationary pressures will abate over time and things will start to get better.’

Ewww. That is very close to the idea of Johnson putting his arms around his latest cause, Care Homes, NHS, the poorest in our society, etc. It is so unappealing.

Firstly I cannot think of anything physically worse. Secondly, I would feel Johnson would only put his arms around any group to pick their pocket.
