This case yes, the Sovereign holds the title 'Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and as the king in waiting, this in Christian act needs to be protested.
No. Charles is supposed to keep out of politics. But did he even say this? We don’t know that he did. A ‘source’ apparently leaked it and it was said during a private conversation. If it happened.
I do not think he made any official announcement. Just something he said privately was overheard and repeated.
He may have to be officially entirely non-partisan, but as an intelligent and educated man he cannot stop himslef considering issues and having private views on them. He has a reputation for being humane and concerned about social issues, even if he is not allowed to espoused them publically.
He was on TV around the time of the previous jubilee saying in effect that he knew that when he was king he would have to stop airing his views so publicly. Like all of us he is entitled to say what he thinks privately. He either spoke in the wrong place, or he has a disloyal friend, or the papers made it up (but I doubt that) If he leaked on purpose then he is an idiot and I expect his mother thinks so too. Whatever you think of the Rwanda plan, and I will keep my opinion to myself, the Royal family should stay out of politics.
Can anyone imagine the furore if this leak had come from the Queen? Or any leak had come from the Queen? He can sort of get away with it as heir but what when he becomes King?
I agree with you GSM. Our royal family are in situ by common consent. Any interference in politics will cause problems. He should take his cue from his mother who as far as I know, has never expressed her views politically. He has interfered before. As he is now nearer the throne he should be very careful about expressing his views. Whether or not the public support his views is immaterial because he should not be expressing them.
As a future monarch he is wrong to make his political views known. As a human being and supposedly a Christian he is right to let it be known just how morally wrong this Rwanda policy is. Surely he’s a human being first.
