It's important we don't get bored and that we keep focused on what is being taken away from us.

When he prorogated parliament I joined the protest outside Downing Street. He hasn't changed at all, but I have run out of disgust and now just feel despair.
I don't think I have ever felt such a lack of optimism about the leadership.

Agreed RichmondPark. People should not be fooled by Johnson's let me get on with serving the British public rhetoric when what he is serving us with is creeping fascism. Anyone who has read the Queens Speech can see that. Anyone who read the revised Ministerial Code can see that. He is shredding our democracy. He will not go quietly. Agree OakDryad. I feel so angry at Johnson but also at the weak members of his party who continue to support his dictatorship. Thank goodness for the few who are brave enough to speak up. I’m sorry you’re bored by all this Urmstongran but I happen to care deeply about the erosion of our democracy. I used to wonder what it might feel like to live under a dictator - sadly, now I know.

It may be ‘the same old theme’, but unfortunately we have the same old PM.

Today’s Times New and Politics article :

Of course he could alway unilaterally change the voting rules.

You have absolutely no idea what it's like to live under a dictator. Believe me. I've been there. And when I hear people come out with this absurd comment it just irritates me.

The problem with this is that parliament is very weak in the face of an intransigent PM. The only MPs that can defeat the PM are his own backbenchers or the cabinet. And they will always be aware that their own careers could be at risk if a PM is defeated.

This is one of many reasons why we need a rebalancing of power between government, parliament and people, a written constitution and an independent, effective head of state.

I’ve mailed my nearest Tory MP.

If people do this I am hoping that the reeks of e-mails that they get will prompt them to find a spine.

But he got Brexit done, Blubelle. That momentous act of national suicide seems to be the only thing that matters to them.

You have absolutely no idea what it's like to live under a dictator. Believe me. I've been there. And when I hear people come out with this absurd comment it just irritates me.

But the point is, we are on the way to it. No we're not in Russia or China. But we're not in democratic Britain anymore either.

I just find the whole thing astounding. The membership of the Conservative Party voted for him to be their leader. He was fun, a breath of fresh air, not stuffy at all, someone popular. They disregarded his time as Mayor of London, the money wasted on his Garden Bridge, they disregarded his time as Foreign Secretary and ensuring Nazanin Zaghari-Radcliffe got an extra 5 years in jail, they disregarded his sacking from the Spectator for lying. They wanted someone different in order to retain power, and they got it. Unfortunately we did too.
Now he is consolidating his power by rewriting the ministerial code so no-one need resign unless the PM wants them to.
