With Martin Lewis predicting civil unrest due to the desperation millions are feeling because of the hike in power bills, this is a national initiative which I’m going to support. You don’t have to leave your home, it’s true people power.
was supposed to be 10pm last night and we did ,but I'm not sure if the whole thing was a scam ....it wasn't widely advertised .10 Minutes wasn't a long time to switch off for so we did
I'm will not either, would have to go round re-setting quite a few things so not worth the effort. I would rather just turn the heating/ water off for a couple of extra hours.
Didn't know about it until this morning! But if we do that it will takes us about an hour to go round correcting all the clocks etc (e.g.on the cooker), so I'm not sure I can be bothered to do the whole lot. Happy to switch off lights, TV and similar, though.
Not sure this is the right thing to do. If there is a massive surge when everyone switches back on it could cause blackouts in some areas for hours not just ten minutes.
I’m in. As for resetting everything, most appliances and tech stuff have a battery backup which should right things easily enough after only ten minutes. If not, it’s a small price to pay, righting a few clocks , the exercise will keep us warm. Perhaps some of us could go for a bit longer to help prevent the surge.
LOL who thought that one out, a great many of us turn the lights off around 10pm anyway. I’ve just checked at that time the only electrical I had on was a fridge, the freezer and the CH pump, about 100 watts in total. Contrast that with the massive surges they get when a popular TV programme ends.
No, it is utterly pointless, those doingit will be account for such a small amount of total demand, even if taken up widely, that the companies will hardly notice.
Anyway, the main cause of rising energy prices is rising prices on world markets, and there is very little the suppliers can do about that.
I have not itme for futile gestures/virtue sgnalling
I wish people would read the notice! This is the second Big Power Off, and it’s planned for 7pm on 16th, not 10pm. The detail is on the photo.
Oh come on Casdon, surely you know that reading the post isn't required! Just make a comment on what you think the post is about. Reading it is just superfluous!
The biggest concern I have is that I can't find out anywhere who is organising this. There doesn't seem to be a clear objective; is it to cut usage, or cause a surge, or make a point...? And the advertising of it is a bit haphazard.
