War crimes in Ukraine

Russia has been suspended from the UN Human Rights Council.

Apparently 28 Countries voted against this along with Countries abstaining.

Will the Russian population get to know this?

Honestly, no.

I do not think the populations have the stomach for fuel/energy rationing, and I do not think any European Government (including the U.K.) has the balls to impose it. I hope I am proved wrong…

I personally would go along with fuel/energy rationing here in the U.K. Other than boots on the ground which I am against I cannot see any other way of getting through to President Putin. It would take weeks/months but compared to what the remaining population of Ukraine is experiencing it’s a worthwhile inconvenience.

No volver I don’t. Not for lack of will, but for economic and practical reasons. It’s a war of words between Russia and Europe/UK about this. I do think that long term Russia will regret their current stance on fuel though because alternatives will ultimately be found.

I’m keen to see a similar embargo in the UK GrannyGravy13, there has to be a way we can achieve it here too. It should actually be easier as we are less dependent on Russian fuel.

Thanks Casdon. And GG13 says in the article she posted that it’s about a third of our gas that comes from Norway, so whatever the exact figure is, it’s better than if it came from Russia.

I just checked out the government sanctions, the current plan is to stop coal and oil imports from Russia by the end of 2022. For gas no date given, it’s ‘as soon as possible’.

As far as I am concerned 8% of fuel imported from Russia is 8% too much.

Your opinion isn’t unpopular with me, I heartily concur. I would go further and supply much more military hardware to ukraine, and agree their membership of NATO and the EU within the next say 5 years.

That’s interesting Casdon but certainly not unwelcome if true. It’s just that I saw the 84/85 figure on one of the news programmes at the beginning of the war. I hope you’re right.

We don’t actually maddyone, 48% of our gas is produced in the UK itself. The remainder does mainly come from Norway though.

Thank the Lord that we get 84/85% of our gas from Norway.

Russia is a major arms manufacturer, many other countries including China use Russian weapons, either locally built or imported.

GG13, I don’t see your view as unpopular. We need to do all we can to support Ukraine against this illegal invasion.

From what an expert was saying on Sky yesterday many of them are very old and not up to date WWM The rate they are losing them at is much higher than the Ukraine army is - as in very much.

India, Algeria and China seem to be the top providers.

No but I can take a guess at how he's paying for them.

The EU sends almost a billion euros a day to Russia in energy payments compared to just €1bn aid for Ukraine since the start of the war.

Josep Borrell admitted to the European Parliament that the bloc had sent a billion euros a day to Moscow in payments since its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, but just €1 billion in weapons to Kyiv.
