Lord Ashcroft’s book about Carrie ?

I was beginning t think it was just me .....

I am in no way defending Mr and Mrs Johnson but you have to look to see why someone, who is not an author, would publish such books.

Since Eve women have been blamed for the failings of men.

Another spiteful work of half fiction/half opinion churned out by a misogynist with an agenda and peddled by the woman-hating Daily Mail. A distraction for the masses from the real issues of the day.

If a world leader is such a weak, inept, rudderless twerp that he can be run like a puppet then he's in the wrong job.

I looked him up when I first saw this thread title Callistemon indeed a nasty piece of work.
I certainly won’t be adding to his bank account, not that I’m particularly interested.

He's a tax exile, buys up companies, discards them, loses people their livelihoods, buys his way into politics here and overseas and when anyone dares to upset him, he writes a scathing biography about them.

I have never liked Ashcroft and I think (from the little I’ve seen, thank you Fanny) that Ashcroft is being extremely misogynistic about Carrie. Not nice!

I'm not a psychiatrist so won't comment.

I am no defender of Johnson and his wife may have more influence than she ought to have.

But I will say that Ashcroft does not care whom he throws to the dogs.

I don't know about the way their marriage works, but I have wondered how her parents felt when she told them about her new romance, when they were first together. She tells them he is twice her age, twice (?) married, has a number of children, not all with his wife , and is politically at odds with her family (I understand). What did they say? Oh, lovely, darling? Or ??

I think Carrie comes from what might be termed a dysfunctional family too.

They have things in common. She lost a previous job due to lying I believe. Can’t believe how anyone can fill out a whole book about her, though. He’s the typical mid life crisis man who leaves his wife for a younger one only to find the new one just wants to have babies. In this case lots of them I fear.

To be fair plenty of people who are fat have perfectly strong relationships/marriages. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all.

I too can look beyond the silly fat comments Fanny, thinking of Luciano Pavarotti for example. Though I do find Boris scruffy.
I do not like the way the press and aspiring authors seek to destroy a partnership. There are enough difficulties in a relationship, particularly this one, without setting out to wreck its very being.

I’ve always had a weird little fantasy/ theory that she is a sort of Mata Hari type spy, or mole.
I also used to have a niggling suspicion that Carrie and Cummings were in it together.

Re his appeal. I can actually get the ‘superficial charm’ thing, and I could also overlook the fat and flab.
But she’s a clever woman, she must have known he was a baddun after the way he treated Marina - it wasn’t exactly in his distant past.
And the fact that his AC seem to dislike him.

I’m not keen on the way that the female is so often attacked in many public relationships. It was similar with Cherie Blair and Melanie Trump.

But he's gross, Galaxy, fat and flabby. No amount of charm can counteract that.

Evidently, as well being called Carrie Antoinette, she’s also known as Ann Boleyn by some people in Downing Street.

Johnson has treated all his wives/long term sexual partners with contempt. His ‘buyer remorse’ comment suggests his attitude to the current Mrs Johnson is no different. I do wonder though, when she’ll leave him.

Or she thinks as many women do, it will be different with me. Many of us have fallen into that trap. I imagine Johnson can be superficially charming. He has a reasonable success rate with women.

You know, I keep thinking about how everyone ooohed and aaahed about how she rented her wedding dress...such a practical and economical thing to do. Then I think 'WTAF! She spent £200,000 on decorating a flat

Baggs asks 1) What does she see in him? (Pretty reasonable question and one I've occasionally asked myself when I can be bothered to take a passing interest in Johnson's private life.

I'm sure that the late great Mrs Merton could supply the answer.

Something along the lines of, free luxury holidays in rather nice locations, £200,000 worth of designer decoration, delightful weekend pad in the country, £127,000 worth of free gourmet take away during lockdown, lots of lovely parties at the 2nd most exclusive address in the UK, no worries about energy bills, I imagine...
