Why isn’t he addressing parliament as he should do?

Do you have evidence that he is not addressing parliament today?

I think he should be holding a press conference to inform the general public about the new energy price cap and the safety net payments of up to £200 as not all folks are glued to the news channels or parliament today.

The energy price cap is to rise by 54% on 1st April.

Mr. Sunak is also appearing on the Martin Lewis Money Show at 8.30pm to answer questions.

So the loans to energy companies will in theory take £200 frame everyone’s bill.

Those on prepayment meters - the least well off - will increase the most by 54%.

The government has already reduced the poorest income by taking away the £20 U/c, as well as the NI rise in April. Inflation went up by 5.4%.

The money the government is pouring into the massive energy suppliers, it is ridiculous.

That vast quantity should be put into home heating payments and other channels for the very poorest.

Another suggestion is council tax rebates for those in band A-C.

A silly way to target.

The government has been in power for over a decade. The result of their policies is low growth and high tax according to the CBI. This will place downward pressure on spending and further slow the economy.

It has also overlooked the worse decade for improved living standards in centuries!

I'll wait to see what Sunak announces, but I'm not holding my breath. I expect short-term fixes to long term problems, which should have been addressed years ago.

I am interested to watch/listen to Mr. Sunak on the MLMS those evening as I think Martin Lewis will ask the questions that the man/woman in the street wants the answers to.

What they should be doing is pursuing renewables like mad.

If they had done so we would not be so reliant on gas and at Putins mercy.

I watched an interview with the CEO of Octopus Energy this morning, and they are definitely investing in both solar and wind renewables.

Unfortunately when there was a proposal for a number of wind turbines not far from me, the locals were up in arms and fought it through all legal channels they could. In the end they lost but it has left divisions in the small Hamlet.

Central government or will the LAs be starved of more cash?

What about students, who don't pay council tax but do pay the full price for gas/electricity? Many of them in private accommodation are already on high tariffs.

Thank you rosie1959 I had it on in the background and playing with GS, so didn’t catch all of the minutiae.

Some people receiving certain benefits only pay a percentage of the full council tax charge too, so will they get a £150 rebate, when they might not even be paying that much in the first place?

Meanwhile, people in work are being faced with higher NIC costs.

Can’t imagine anyone’s council tax bill is less than £150 a year Growstuff even with rebates ?

They just might be. The unemployed pay a fraction of the total council tax charge and all those receiving Universal Credit pay on a sliding scale.

£200 works out to £3.80 a week, not sure where you got £1.00 per week from?
