Is Boris Johnson revealing who he really is?

I studied politics at university we were advised in the first year of study to read and watch world news. It would benefit us to have a wider perspective of life so we were told. I still do it’s a globe we live on if we go beyond our shores we are not going to fall off.

I can’t believe what I’m reading in the Press this morning. 100 people invited by a senior civil servant (I thought they had more sense?) to a BYOB garden party which Boris & Carrie attended in May last year.

When I think of him standing at the podium with the Two Ronnies spouting his guff to the rest of us just beggars belief. Why can’t our politicians be squeaky clean once in power? Where is their moral compass? Mind you, look at other countries too. Politics is indeed a dirty business.

I am a little puzzled in why you are interested in what New York thinks of Johnson! I did click on the link to see but it said to read it subscribe, which I wouldn’t do, as I read UK papers. Never thought to subscribe to an overseas one.

UK newspapers only show our little bubble. Never a bad thing to get an international perspective. I read Al Jazeera for that very reason.

Of course not, Ug. You don't appear to be able to connect the two ideas 1) that you voted for Johnson and 2) that he is a disaster for the country. 'Lending' your vote doesn't excuse you, or anyone else who voted tory. You are the ones who released this evil man.

But 'proper choices' at the ballot box is a fantasy under the First Past the Post system.

I don't understand how anyone can 'lend someone a vote' without some considerable reference to their past record, wider manifesto and proven principles.

To base a decision that will influence everything that happens in our society for four years on one, single issue is beyond me.

Well let's hope that people will bother about this latest in a longline of revelations about the couldn't care less attitude of this government and the man at the top. I thought his smirking when being interviewed on the news spoke volumes.
Johnson has no regard for rules .He is not fit to be a leader of anything, let alone a country.

I have a chum who is a known journalist.
She has always sold articles to North America publications mainly for the money. At least what she writes tends not to be political.

Nobody should be made to feel guilty or told to apologise for the way they voted, end of!!!!

I voted for my Conservative constituency MP, no regrets they have been good for my area.

Mr.Johnson needs to give his head a wobble, get some good advisors with excellent knowledge of politics in the U.K. and sound moral compasses. Then he needs to listen to them and act appropriately.

As for Brexit, the U.K. was part of what evolved into the EU for over forty years, anyone with half a brain surely realised it would not be done and dusted easily or swiftly. Hopefully over the coming months, years things will settle down and the U.K. can move onwards and upwards.

Normally I'd agree with you GG13, if it came to party politics.

But when it comes to Brexit, no, if you voted for this s**tshow and the charlatan who promised to get it done, then you are to blame for helping ruin this country. A bit of contrition would go a long way.

I remember an anecdote about the making of a film depicting a grand prix crash. Time and time again the extras acting the role of spectators failed to respond with the horror that such a scene would have generated. As a last resort the director blew up the tea van. That got their attention. The British voting public are very good at not reacting to draconian legislations being snuck through parliament until the metaphorical tea van is blown up. Drink parties for big wigs may well prove to be the tea van.

Voting on just one issue, especially without knowing what it actually meant- is a very dangerous thing to do.

Brexit is NOT done- it is falling apart, and Liz Truss will make sure of that. If she triggers Art 16, the consequences will be dire. Believe me, or not. Call it Project Fear, scare mongering, whatever you wish. Just watch.

Just getting fed up seeing Urmstongran harassed and somewhat bullied because she is honest in why and how she voted.

Anyone is free to use their vote however they choose in the U.K.

Its not a matter of how or why someone voted. Its a matter of still not accepting that maybe, just maybe, the promised sunlit uplands and dappled fields of flowers were maybe, just maybe, a mirage that people bought into because they were conned and the whole thing was an edifice built on sand?

And that maybe people could have a bit more nous and stop pretending that everything's a bed of roses and that it doesn't matter what happens, they exercised their democratic right to elect a numpty?

Johnson is actually irrelevant in this dangerous game. He was only chosen because he fitted the profile that would attact votes from many. Just a tool- and will be discarded soon. What is behind is much much more sinister, the ERG.

Of course people are free to vote however they choose - but there are consequences, and people are totally entitled to voice their dismay and concerns too.

We have met some true blue Conservatives recently, family and friends. We didn't discuss any of this- but I am so glad they had the courage and the honesty to say 'we have made a massive mistake'. We didn't dwelve on it, but we were truly impressed they had volunteered to say it.
