The next bit will be how you vote in the next election. We will have two choices on the ballot paper - however many names are there. You can vote for the Conservative continuity of anti-democratic, anti-Europe government or the candidate best placed to stop them and who offer, as Labour has already stated, that they would seek a "closer alliance with the EU".
If you do not vote for that best-placed candidate, you will be voting for a move further away from our European neighbours and further away from democracy.

*PippaZ*, Maizie, the usual ploy, ignore anything I said that. that spoils your argumenrt.
If you read my most recent post I specifically said: The claim made suggested that the country as a whole would be starving. Scenes like Afghanistan.
I do not diminish the problems of those on limited incomes in these inflationary times. The Trussell Trust and other food banks have beenn highlighting the problem for several years now, but people in this country starving, I am sorry that is ridiculous.
I should have put quotes around 'people in this country' starving'.
There are already people in this country starving, but the whole nation starvin? No that is alarmist. Perhaps more precision in your posts?
And did you read my posts M0nica? This most recent pile-on of those who only want to talk about Brexit suggests most, if not all of them, did not. So let's talk about the people who have put us in this position.
In my opinion, the ex-leave voters, not just on here but all those who still cannot see what they have done, are a malign body when it comes to our country.
It seems to me they would rather support an authoritarian, albeit one with a funny haircut, than the democracy of our country. Those who only look to have an opinion - any opinion - would rather belittle our allies, the people our parents, our brothers and sisters fought to save from an authoritarians. than befriend them. They would rather throw verbal stones at these people who may, the next time around, be asked to fight for us against the authoritarianism in our country. It occured to me this morning that they might well rather side with Putin, who is making life very difficult for the EU, than see that EU in a good light.
And the reason I didn't use the word "some"? Because it may not be "some". Rather than tell the man with the funny haircut to make alliances and let us move to the future, they are happy to see the constant childish battles. And they will carry on this attitude, as I have said previously. They will carry it on until they have to walk through the debris of what they have created.
I wanted us to look to the future and how we get back to some semblance of a democratic country. You simply want to carry on old arguments. This wonderful country will never be perfect, no country is, but a the moment I so often feel shamed by what we have become; what we have allowed on our watch.
I too remember the Winter of Discontent very well. I was working. It was a depressing time.
Most of us on here have lived long lives and can remember far worse periods than this ( rising prices.)
Indeed we can, but it hasn't made all of us indifferent to the prospect of even more people living in food poverty than already do.

The doom laden predictions continue apace on the forum
Monica but fortunately only by the few ( even if there are many posts.)
‘Struggling to put food on the table’ seems to be a buzz phrase now, along with ‘hardworking families’ ......as if lack of cash is something new.
Rising gas prices along with economies shattered by Covid in every country will make food prices rise, but the UK will not starve.
Most of us on here have lived long lives and can remember far worse periods than this ( rising prices.)
I can't.

^but the UK will not starve.^
Well some of the disadvantaged people will. But I'm all right Jack
I can remember the Winter of Discontent in the seventies, I can remember power cuts, I can remember my great granny making huge pots of soup for the whole family to share. We survived, but I'd rather not have to do that again, thank you.
Most people won't starve because eating to survive is such a high priority. What will happen is that they pay more for food, so have less for all their other commitments, such as accommodation, heating, fuel, etc.
Strangely, I don't even remember being affected by the Winter of Discontent. I was a student at the time, so maybe I was used to "making do". As I wasn't affected, does that mean it didn't happen and I was an "I'm alright Jill"?
but the UK will not starve.

The main question to those who say Brexit is “done”- If 'Brexit is done' why are Brexit negotiations still ongoing? Surely if Brexit negotiations remain ongoing, Brexit is not "done."
There is a LOT of negotiation going on not just NI
Because what the UK wants is not what fits in with EU rules, in many areas conditional agreements are being made - conditional on us not changing the standards.
MOnica It's you who has tried to destroy an argument. If Pippa has used the word "some" you would not have had a case. This is a social media group, not a place for writing legal arguments, where every single word matters.
If you think that Brexit hasn't made life harder for some people, maybe you could argue your case. As it is, I'm sorry to say that you just sound smug.
From Pippa's actual post
if people in this country do end up starving..
You're overreacting, MOnica. She said nothing about the whole population starving, which is the way you are interpreting it. Precision can work both ways; in writing a post and in interpreting a post.

Of course price rises, food shortages, sewage pollution in the sea and rivers, shortage of health and care workers, chefs and hospitality workers, warehouse, abattoir workers, vets, fruit and veg pickers have nothing to do with Brexit ?

I voted to leave and although it won ..it was ignored ..so don't be voting for any of them again..
Have we not left then? Have I imagined it all, like a bad dream?
Let joy be unconfined!!

Totally agree, Urmstongran wild claims about people starving, presumably because there are no packets of crisps on the supermarket shelves or only one brand of baked beans on the shelf, diminish the credibility of those who make them.
What a disgusting suggestion M0nica. Those who may starve if we have the sort of none agreement that the flag-waving has been for on here are already trying to live as a family, according to the boss of Iceland on the news the other day, working to a weekly budget of £25 for their families food.
Those putting us in a position where the basics rise in price for these people are those who don't care to acquire knowledge about anything other than their now infamous "opinion".
This is so bizarre that I don't even know where to start.
Urmstongran
And yet those on here are the ones banging on about overseas aid ... to countries who run a Space Programme. Make your minds up ladies.
What on earth are you talking about?

This story is from 2018. I doubt if much has changed since then.
More than 8 million people in Britain live in households that struggle to put enough food on the table, with over half regularly going a whole day without eating, according to estimates of hunger in the UK.

I agree, Monica. It's ridiculous, isn't it?
I try to ignore the amateur psychology from those who think they know why people write what they do.

Thank you MOnica for your sensible response. Some on here aren’t satisfied until they whip up a sense of panic and doom.
I dare say the people without enough food to eat are feeling quite doom-y enough without anybody having to whip up anything.

Tell that to somebody who's seen their grocery bill mean they have to cut back on heating or risk getting into debt.
