The oaf put his foot in it after she'd been arrested, but before she was tried. His words were used as evidence against her. As I recall, he was supposed to speak on her behalf on that visit; not make things worse.

Not to excuse Johnson but I think the Iranians were looking for any excuse. A poor little girl has been deprived of her mother and goodness know how Nazanin is coping. They build her hopes up and then cruelly dash them to the ground. Let us on GN unite and sign the petition rather than in fighting.

Can you explain to me why the Iran regime is condemned and the Saudi regime is feted lemongrove? Because there is very little to choose between them as far as human rights go and the Saudis have probably financed more terrorism.

It is possible, indeed quite likely, that he is ‘bothering’ because he loves his wife, because he wants his daughter to have her mother home, because he and his wife are at the centre of an injustice not of their making, because the PM’s gaffe was instrumental in securing a longer prison term for Nazanin, because he hopes to remind the public that his wife is still facing untold years in prison, because public opinion may yet influence government to take further action to secure Nazanin’s release. And in his shoes I think I’d be inclined to do something similar because to do nothing would not be an option I would consider.

The pandemic has had a negative effect, minimised the amount of tv/radio/print media I engage with these days. Despite this, I’ve been aware of Mr Radcliffe’s hunger strike. He’s a brave man, seems to be a loving husband and father
Mr Johnson’s comments did nothing to help, just the opposite. He should be ashamed and being seen to do all he can to help

Johnson's disgraceful allegation that Nazanin was in Iran to train journalists was the excuse for the Iranian government to detain her indefinitely. That was one of his worst failures as Foreign Secretary.

It is in Johnson's power as PM to direct payment of the debt which seems now to be the obstacle to her release. It is utterly shameful that he has turned his back on this British family.

Given that some people on gransnet haven’t even heard of Nazanin I can’t help but feel that, if she wasn’t Iranian there would have been a lot more media coverage of her plight. Make of that what you will.

That is a disgraceful comment. You have no knowledge of what other people are thinking. How dare you infer racism because you don’t like something another poster said. You can stand by your comment till the cows come home but it doesn’t mean you’re right. You have no idea what many people think. Judging by the comments on here, many people are appalled by Nazanin’s situation, and wholly in support of her and her family, and wish fervently for her to be brought back home as quickly as possible.

Might I ask what anyone on here has actually done to help her cause? All I’ve done is post things on Facebook and sign petitions and feel I should do more.

Absolutely. Because most of what he does is on a huge incomprehensible scale. But this is an innocent woman, her devoted husband and a child that is missing her mum.

What a few posters including myself didn’t realise at first was exactly who the man was( who was holding the placard in the OP.) It could have been her husband/ family member/ friend

She hasn’t been forgotten by the FO or the wider British public either.
If posters could stop looking for aggression they would realise that other posters are all very sympathetic to her, her family, and other hostages held by the Iranian regime.

But some think that we just need to sit back and not do anything about it because you can't negotiate with terrorists, she should have known better than go in the first place and Iran will just do what they like anyway so what's the point.

no I am NOT.but this case truly upsets me deeply and some of the uncaring sentiments expressed here make me beyond sad, and angry.

She is a British citizen- end of. Even though she is a bit darker than you, and was born elsewhere. And she did not choose to go on a jolly there, but to visit her parents. The disdain shown for dual cititzens here is frequent and clear. Johnson is NOT doing anything, because he does not want to repay the money they clearly owe- and she, her husband and daughter, are just insignificant collateral damage!
