I am disgusted at the way the BBC have behaved. Prince William was so upset and hurt on her behalf and at her treatment by them. My heart goes out to him, he has behaved with such integrity. Thank goodness he has Kate and his children. Diana would be so proud of him. Who else have they given this treatment too?

Anniebach Fri 21-May-21 11:33:15

The cause of her death was a car crash , the driver v the papps,
because Dodi Fayed And Diana chose to leave a private apartment in the Ritz hotel at night in full knowledge that the
cameras were waiting and against the advice of their security,
what was so urgent that caused them to leave the safety of the
Ritz to go to his apartment

I'm sorry, but I don't get this. It happened 25 years ago. The BBC is now being screamed at by the papers that hounded Diana and have no scruples at all about using dirty tricks to get the dirt on public figures. They're all complicit.

Agreed. All the sanctimonious reporting by the very press who would pay paparazzi for invasive photographs is sickening. Even more so is the criticism by Diana's brother who refused her sanctuary in her own home when she needed it. The victim is the same but the perpetrators are many. To suggest that this interview, however it was arranged, was the cause of her death two years later is monstrous, Diana was already on a disaster course, the marriage was well and truly over. I am saddened for her sons to have this all dragged up again, but don't think that the BBC are the only guilty party here.

“ she loved her children and gave them a happy time but she spoilt them, encouraged them to be naughty”. How do you know this ?

Bridgeit Fri 21-May-21 11:15:03

Well there we go , peace has been restored

Alegrias1 Fri 21-May-21 11:14:29

And no need to be quite so patronising either. I guess we can both improve, eh?

Bridgeit Fri 21-May-21 11:13:47

No need to be so abrasive, perhaps have a nice cup of tea and chill out.

Alegrias1 Fri 21-May-21 11:12:46

Sorry, should I just shut up and let everyone else got on with it?

Dream on.

Bridgeit Fri 21-May-21 11:08:19

Alegrias1, why are you adding fuel to the fire by labelling PW a ‘saint ‘& PH ‘banging on about ‘ ?

Daisend1 Fri 21-May-21 11:07:30

William has now come forward .
Where is Charles in all of this??????

Grammaretto Fri 21-May-21 10:53:19

Martin Bashir is not white. 25 years ago the BBC would have found it difficult to look impartial and politically correct had they not believed him.

I am relating this to something that happened in my own family around the same time. Our 12yr old DS was beaten up at school by a gang of boys. It was, it turned out, an Asian gang. The school were apologetic but explained that it was a sensitive issue but they would investigate it. Nothing was ever done. The school were terrified of being thought racist.

Last night's documentary was important. It has made me realise how easily Diana could have been sent headlong into paranoia by being shown fake evidence.

I don’t think it’s so much about Diana wanting to and telling the truth in the interview, but that Bashir lied and played on her insecurities filling her with paranoia just as William’s statement said. William is that little bit older than Harry so realised things Harry may not have been aware of or understood at the time. Harry’s is the raw emotion of a younger child.

Washerwoman Fri 21-May-21 10:29:28

Thank you Smileless. And my mistake reading several reports that it wasn't in his statement but on Apple TV so my previous was inaccurate on that .However I was pretty stunned to see his comment re Dodi Fs ethnicity.Diana was hounded in latter years full stop.

Rosie51 Fri 21-May-21 10:22:24

Totally agree Oldwoman70.

Tina1957 Fri 21-May-21 10:21:14

I feel sorry for both of Diana’s sons. They have been through so much.Shame on you BBC.

Oldwoman70 Fri 21-May-21 10:12:37

This thread seems to have turned into a William v Harry thread. Should it not be about the disgraceful way Bashir acted and the BBC's subsequent cover up. There are many who were at the controls of the BBC at the time who should be called to account for targeting those who raised concerns and allowing the cover up.

TopsyIrene06 Fri 21-May-21 10:08:58

Alegrias. I agree.

GagaJo Fri 21-May-21 10:08:50

Alegrias1

Harry has been banging on for years about the toxic impact of the press but now Saint William has said the same, suddenly it's all true.

William and his family came to an agreement with the press to support their own needs but Harry told the press in the UK where they could stuff it. Good on him.

I also agree with Alegrias1.

Anniebach Fri 21-May-21 10:01:19

So Megan supported Harry having therapy but he didn’t do the
same when she felt suicidal !

Alegrias1 Fri 21-May-21 10:01:12

That's all really uncalled for Lillie.

We don't talk about posters who are no longer posting on Gransnet, especially not in such a derogatory manner.

Lillie Fri 21-May-21 09:59:03

not emojis by Alegrias, I meant susie

Lillie Fri 21-May-21 09:57:57

I watched the interview and i posted my views. I don't anymore but do read the threds.
Alegrias, even though I disagree, does actually have better opinions than the lines of emojis and sighs I was given by her at the time. That poseter has gone thankfully, so at least these discussions have a bit of meaning.

maddyone Fri 21-May-21 09:57:48

The BBC and Martin Bashir behaved disgracefully. They are both beneath contempt.

Smileless2012 Fri 21-May-21 09:56:35

Hopefully they will be Kamiso. I don't know if anyone remembers or watched his interview with Michael Jackson. There were some sections where MJ was shaking and visibly upset which raised questions about his mental health.

Unbeknown to Bashir, he was being filmed by MJ's team and when that was released, what had been edited out of the original documentary showed how a line of questioning and/or comments made by Bashir to MJ had clearly upset him but as they were edited out, it helped to show MJ in the worse possible light.

An insightful and rather disturbing revelation of the tactics used and not dissimilar to the ones used to secure the interview with Diana.

news.sky.com/story/harry-accuses-royal-family-of-total-silence-and-neglect-in-documentary-12312388

And this isn't the press twisting his words. This is Harry speaking out and using the media to air his thoughts.

Galaxy Fri 21-May-21 09:55:17

I dont see anything negative in being hard heartened old or a crone. smile
