Though I have not yet been affected by Brexit I have always said that it was and continues to be a colossal mistake. Over the coming months it will strike home though masked by Covid affecting more of us. In some ways I hope it goes badly and the government is forced to beg to rejoin, with or without a referendum. That will have to wait for Covid to be largely controlled and the Brexiteer bunch consigned to history.
We need a coalition government made up of pragmatic members from across the political spectrum followed in due time by a general election held on a fair votes basis. Wishful thinking but the Trumpian government here cannot fully distance itself from the disasters of populism. Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and other high profile Brexiteers need to be made accountable, some of their colleagues may be redeemable. As for the likes of Nigel Farage, Jabob Rees Mogg, Aaron Banks, Steven Baker and ERG MP's they should at least be barred from holding office for life. They only wanted a low tax country at any cost and did not care who they hurt in the process.
I do believe in Free Speech and democracy but with that must come honesty, objectivity and compassion plus accountabilty for misleading the public. You can forgive genuine mistakes in time but deliberate well thought out destruction of democracy can never be forgiven. Dominic Cummings and Cambridge Analytica have a great deal to answer for here and in America. Witch hunt may be but a line has to be drawn somewhere, some of them have crossed the lines of democractic administration.
