Boris’ meltdown at PMQs

All those education “ reforms” brought in by Gove and Cummings are a blight on schools. Primary children learning obscure grammar and changes to GCSE grades which make no sense as two prime examples.

Gove is Far too close to Cummings who will ultimately prove to be a disaster to our country.

Gove’s previous behaviour surely bars him anyway.

I think it’s the way Michael Gove acted in the leadership election (when Theresa May won) , he just doesn’t appeal to me as a leader lemongrove

As Education Secretary he showed himself to be out of touch, incompetent and completely unwilling to listen to anyone

What is it you like about Johnson? Since you wouldn't normally be a Tory voter, would the things you like about him lead you to vote Tory?

Yes, apologies. Completely misread the article. I don’t normally get involved with any of the political threads, in fact politics doesn’t normally interest me at all. I do like Boris, just can’t help it, but wouldn’t normally be a Tory voter. Kier Starmer seems polished to me, and not a genuine person at all. Not unlike David Cameron and that creep Michael Gove. I do however, feel that in these difficult times, it wouldn’t have mattered which government was in office, they would have been slagged off by the other side. Much like being in the school playground. I think they’ve been as good as anyone could be, and it’s only by making mistakes, that they can try to put things right. It’s a pandemic. It’s inevitable that people will die. They could start by stopping people having all these holidays abroad. Totally ridiculous to me. Just stay here. It doesn’t need to be forever, just start with this year. But I’m not in charge, despite the fact I’ve offered my services!?

If any of us were accused of a crime and arrested, we could have a barrister allocated to us under legal aid. If that were not so, we could be unable to quote the relevant laws which we had NOT broken to do what we are accused of, and there could be a miscarriage of justice. If any defendant (guilty or innocent) is denied legal representation, then you or I could be denied it if we found ourselves up for trial, whether we were guilty or innocent. Access to justice must be for everyone.

If a felon is arrested and charged with serious offences while X is Director of Public Prosecutions, and the case comes to trial in due course and the felon is eventually convicted and sentenced many months later, by which time X is no longer DPP, but has been succeeded by Y, it is not Y's fault if certain additional crimes were not included in the charges.

One of the responsibilities of the DPP is to judge whether a case is highly unlikely to have enough evidence to send to trial - there is no point setting up a lengthy procedure which cannot be successfully decided one way or another.

Some people seem to think because a criminal barrister works for the defence ( usually through legal aid) it must mean they approve of the crime committed or are chums with the accused. The legal system doesn’t work like that, and is a pathetic attempt to smear Starmer. Just because there’s a lot of genuine dirt to dig up about Johnson and his lies, people will resort to anything to discredit the leader of the opposition, maybe to make themselves feel better about Johnson’s failings.

Despite people's efforts to inform you, Jabberwok, you still don't seem to understand how the law works. Barristers don't choose their cases and all accused persons have a right to be defended and have their case heard, however obnoxious they may appear to be. They are also held to be innocent until proved guilty. This is what equality before the law is all about. It is regarded as a human right and is also a mark of a civilised society

I was wondering ( being very generous) if Johnson’s abysmal performance was due to his brush with covid, but then remembered that throughout the GE he was kept as far as was possible away from Cameras and microphones.

So no he has always been useless.

Have you got the right person? Claire Fox was never in the Labour Party. She was in the Revolutionary Communist Party and was a Brexit Party MEP.

Starmer's job when acting for the accused was to find out how the law applied to his client's case, and to state that in his defence. That is what a barrister for the defence does and everyone charged with an offence is entitled to it. Meanwhile another barrister was finding out how the law applied from the other direction, and stating that case. That is how the courts work.

If the escaped terrorist hadn't had enough of a case to be justified in at least bringing a case against the prison service, he would not have succeeded in having it heard. Once the case was admiitted to the lists to be heard, he too was entitled to have legal representation in court. That is justice.

Would anyone really be happy if a prisoner (ANY prisoner) who felt he had a legitimate complaint about his treatment couldn't get proper professional representation if his case were judged reasonable enough to be heard? That would be carte blanche for ANY prisoner to be badly treated once they were locked up.

Let's not forget that Carrie Symonds was one of John Worboys youngest victims. Kier Starmer got some flack because of his refusal to prosecute Warboys.
