The Queens speech is being seen by Johnson as a good opportunity as a pre-election advertisement.

The Palace is not remotely happy.

Is there nothing this wretched man won’t stop at to further his own ends?

Lady Hale made fun of Pinocchio at the Association of State Girl’s Schools annual leadership conference.

To enable the Queen to Sell the Tory Party before the election.

I know the queen seldom wears the same outfit, but I do hope that if she is forced to deliver a party political broadcast on behalf of the brexit Tory party, she wears the lovely hat she wore the last time.

Given that a General Election is almost certainly imminent, isn't it a huge waste of both time and taxpayers money to have a Queen's Speech right now?

Boris Johnson persuading probably the most reactionary Right-wing racist and homophobic government in Europe, Viktor Orban's Fidesz in Hungary, to block a British extension would be both shaming and unprincipled. Thankfully he's likely to fail. Again.

Govt Lawyers advising have warned that the forthcoming “Queen’s speech” maybe “unconstitutional”.

Queen’s speeches start a new legislative period they are not to be given immediately before an election otherwise this risks using the monarch for an election broadcast.

Before there is any Queen's Speech we need to do two things.

Resolve the brexit crisis. No government can possibly put forward a programme of legislation without knowing what our national income will be and that is entirely dependent on whether there is a brexit with a deal, brexit without a deal or no brexit. It is a dishonest charade to pretend otherwise and Her Majesty should not be embarrassed and used in this way.

Secondly we need a general election so that we have a government with democratic legitimacy which Boris Johnson's brexit-obsessed Tory minority government does not have.

We need a unity government to sort brexit, then put it to the people, then once that is resolved one way or the other, the unity government can dissolve itself and go for a GE.

Anything else would be ridiculous.

Please tell that to Corbyn, who seems only to want an opportunity to be PM then do his own brexit, irrespective of what the Labour MPs, Labour members, Labour voters and the majority of UK citizens want.

I am the last person who would defend Johnson, but I suppose he has to go ahead with a Queen's Speech doesn't he since an election has not yet been either called or precipitated by a vote of no confidence?

Here is one expert opinion. He had a letter on the subject published in The Times today. This article enlarges on it.

It is true that Queen’s Speeches have long been used by governments for propaganda purposes, weaving a political narrative around an otherwise dull list of legislative measures, with catchphrases to reinforce the political messaging. But the speech has always been followed by a legislative session in which those bills were introduced. This would be the first Queen’s Speech when the government had no real intention of introducing the bills it had just announced, because it hoped that within weeks parliament would be dissolved for an early election.

It is also argued that in the current circumstances the Queens Speech would amount to a blatant Party Political Broadcast for the tory party..

Now Cox is threatening to resign if Johnson does not ask the EU for an extension. At last he shows to have principles.

So, it looks like we might not get a Deal with the EU if Johnson (read Cummings and ERG) continue with their stupid games.

And as Trump is in big trouble back home, and in a minority- Nancy Pelosi and others have made it crystal clear that will be NO deal with the USA, unless Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement are fully protected- which means the Backstop as there are no other acceptable solutions.

So, it is now being reported that Johnson is threatening to bring chaos to the European Union decision making process if the EU will not agree to what many see as his unworkable deal.

The hope would seem to be that in frustration of not being able to get anything done the EU would then "throw" Britain out of the Union.

However, what our Buffoon of a Prime Minister does not seem to have thought through would seem to be the damage the European Union could do to Britain if relations were to be at such a low level on the United Kingdom withdrawing from the EU.

In the above, the EU could insist on rigorous checks being carried out at the channel ports, and with more than 40%of Britains fresh, chilled and frozen food held up on those trucks for days on end, that scenario does not even bear thinking about.

By introducing a 'rogue' UK Commissioner, I understand. Perhaps he has failed to notice that prospective Commissioners are scrutinised by the European Parliament who are empowered to veto their appointment. They've thrown out at least a couple of prospective commissioners already

The proposed UK commissioner probably wouldn't make it, either.

Europeans can read our newspapers, too, you know (because English is spoken extensively in Europe). What is splashed all over the UK media is not secret from the rest of the world... They will have a pretty good idea of what Johnson/Cummings is up to.

Lemongrove, I agree that we most certainly should not believe all we read especially in Britains extream right wing press.

However, if Johnson's agenda is not to disrupt the EU decision making process then what do you or any other forum member feel is his and Cummings agenda.

After all, Johnson has stated he would rather "die in a ditch" than ask the European Union for an extension to article fifty. At the same time, he has also stated to the courts that he will be requesting that extension if no withdrawal agreement is reached by the 19th of October.

So, as it would seem there is little to no chance of such an agreement by that date, what's the Johnson and Cummings plan now?????

As leavers on this forum and other social media so often state they knew exactly what they were voting for in the Referendum, they must have foreseen this situation appearing, therefore they must surely know what will happen now in this scenario.
