Wonder how the next few hours and days will unfold, politically, given the court ruling regarding prorogation of parliament?
Online friends are all completely fed up with parliament's determination to stall Brexit. That's what this is about, after all.
Boris is likely to resign, as once MPs are back in the HOC, there will be a no confidence vote against him.
What of all the party conferences? Will they go ahead? I imagine Labour and Lib Dem MPs, are hot-footing it back to the HOC as I type. The keys to number 10 are likely to be passed on.
One can only hope there is a general election. Corbyn in the few days of the LP conference has made himself unelectable. The Conservative vote is likely to go to the Brexit party. Remainers are likely to vote Lib Dem.
Leavers are fired up. If there ever was a one issue party likely to succeed, the Brexit Party is it.
Richard Tice, interviewed shortly after the court verdict was announced knows that politically the time favours his party.
I know that one of the GN posters gave him £50000
Was it in a brown paper bag?
I'd forgotten about that, WWm2
Further to Farage buggering off to America.
I know that one of the GN posters gave him £50000 . He’s never set up a political party, and has collected untold amounts of money including the £50000.
He is nicely set up, isn’t he for his new life?
iam64 I do agree, but that description could describe so many of the government front benches.
without a deal
You'd be happy to be left to cope with the issues highlighted in yellowhammer as a possible scenario, whilst Farage swans off to a new life in the USA set up for him by his mates with money? To say nothing of the pension he'll be getting from the EU. Is that the character you admire so much Urmstongran?
The only people I know who are not afraid of leaving the EU without a no deal are those with money whose lifestyle will not change at all. They will simply absorb the higher prices and have private health care anyway. Good riddance I say.
That comment seems like ‘reverse rascism’ to me Iam64
His friend Aaron Banks gave NF some money in readiness for to start up in the USA with a new job in the media. Conspiracy theorists said it was to fund his Brexit Party.
We all know he’s leaving for pastures new in the future. So long as he does his best to deliver Brexit first, he’ll be popular with us Leavers!
Geoffrey Cox is a patronising prig isn’t he. The kind of barrister you’d never instruct because you knew he’d alienate everyone and bully anyone he could. The kind of white , over privileged bar steward who would have been employed by the East India company - stuck in the past
So, he plans to leave the country anyway, but only once Brexit has been secured. In other words, only once the UK is well and truly isolated and vulnerable, having been alienated from its former trading partners and allies!
If I was a more suspicious person, I might suspect his motives!
I hate very few people whom I've never met, but he's top of the list. Everything about him is obnoxious.
Apparently, he's not intending to leave until after Brexit has been delivered - a bit like being helicoptered off the Titanic after steering it into an iceberg. He really is the ultimate sh*t. Sorry for the people who were deluded enough to think he's some kind of patriot.
Didn't Farage say that after the Referendum as well? In fact, I thought he had moved to USA and only came back, to start the Brexit Party, when he thought the referendum result wasn't being/going to be implemented.
Really? Is that a promise? Has he booked his flight?
As an aside and something to Brighton our day. Farage has indicated that he intends to leave the U.K. and live in the USA
Just been listening to Geoffrey Cox, who sounded like a pantomime barrister or headteacher of a third rate Victorian boarding school.
But, newnanny, there has to be a deal at some stage, either before or after the UK leaves the EU. The deal is about issues such as Ireland and Gibraltar and the rights of UK citizens in the EU and EU citizens in the UK. Without a negotiated deal, people are going to be left in limbo and there is a real possibility of increased trouble in Ireland.
Meanwhile, EU countries won't start negotiating trade deals and we'll be left with WTO rules. The WTO is on the verge of collapse anyway.
There is no such thing as a clean break or whatever people are hoping for. In many ways, leaving without a deal will prolong negotiations, which in any case will last years.
Labour does not want a GE because many of their own party do not want their leader, Corbyn, in charge.
I used to want to leave with a deal, now I just want to leave without a deal. I have never attended a rally or march in my life, and I have a bad back which makes walking painful, but I would attend a march or rally if it helped us to leave. I think I would even do a sit in provided their was a toilet nearby I could use.
In normal circumstances the HoC would take the word of the PM but with BJ's track record why would they?
Absolutely right for the opposition parties to ensure that he can't drag us out with no deal on 31 October.
Only once that's securely in place should there be a GE.
SNP and LibDem on board with that
and they've no fear of a GE.
Absolutely growstuff. He’s stuffed, let him answer to Parliament for his decisions..
Now onto Johnson’s misuse of public money, paying hundreds of thousands to a USA based company.
Let Johnson stew for a bit longer! The Conservatives created this mess. Let's see how they sort it out.
What do you think is unlikely lemongrove?
I really don't know what the result of a GE will be, but I seriously don't think it's going to be the Brexit Party's "day", whether or not the UK is out of the EU. Brexit really isn't going to go away. People who think we can just walk away with no deal are seriously deluded.
The UK cannot survive in the modern world without trade deals, especially with its nearest neighbours and they can't even start to be negotiated before there's a "deal". Even if the UK leaves the EU without one, the negotiations will have to continue (start?) and we'll be in an even weaker position than we are now.
Meanwhile, there are issues in Ireland and Gibraltar which need to be addressed - urgently.
My guess is that the Brexit Party will become a footnote in the history book within a few years. They don't have any policies and aren't even a proper political party. I do have enough faith in fellow Brits not to be complete fools.
Something needs to happen flipping soon, as the H of Cs is in deadlock, no legislation on homegrown issues, just point scoring!!!
Both Lib (un)Dems and the L(sitting on the fence)P have been continually calling for an election but have not got the b***s to call for a VONC in the government to enable BJ to call a GE.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Mr Corbyn denied that he was running scared of an election because of his dire popularity ratings - which are the lowest ever for an opposition leader at minus 60.
