Far-right extremism is the fastest growing terrorist threat in the UK, according to the country’s most senior counter terrorism officer.
Neil Basu, the Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner, said seven of the 22 plots foiled since March last year were linked to far right ideologies. And he warned that public speakers, including politicians, need to be very careful about their rhetoric.

The point that Mr Basu makes about politicians needing to be careful about their rhetoric is very important. We have long had to suffer the irresponsible rantings of Farage and his ilk, but many Conservative politicians have indulged in appalling hate speech in the last three years, using words like "betrayal" about anyone who opposed brexit. You might expect it from the swivel-eyed ERGs, but it was sad to hear Theresa May use words like that, designed to inflame and foment civil unrest.
