I saw it with my own eyes yesterday as DD and I were in Boots (Newcastle) looking for baby milk and baby juice. My Dd has told me in the past that she has struggled to find milk in town and that the shelves are often bare and she often has to try quite a few different shops before finding any.
Yesterday I questioned an assistant and she told me “oh don’t get me started, I could stock the shelves to the top right now (if we had any) and the Chinese would come in and buy it all. We have had to limit the milk to 10 boxes per person but they come in 6 and 8 at a time and take the maximum amount per person , meaning that people like your daughter cannot even get one box.....ditto the special baby juices”
Apparently they send it all back to China . There is a large Chinese population in Newcastle and this is becoming common place in most of the shops that stock baby products. I had to hear it with my own ears and see it to believe it !
Thankfully Evie is only having one bed time bottle a day now which is just as well. Not sure they can do about it ? Making the limits per person 2 or 3 instead of 10 might be a good start though.
Please please please can we stop blaming the Chinese. There are over 10,000 students from the far East living in the centre of Newcastle and I doubt if the lady in Boots can tell a Chinese person from a Korean or someone from Singapore or Hong Kong. And some of the students have babies and they have just returned to Uni so could be stocking up. lemon you don't need a car in Newcastle we have an excellent transport system. I live 15 mins frrom the city centre and I don't drive.
OP God! You know it all don't you Gagajo. Or think you do.
Of course it's not racist. How could you complain about the Chinese buy ng up all the stock without mentioning the Chinese? It could be men from Mars, for all the difference it makes.
Thinking it through, it’s fine if you have a car and can whizz off to another store, but what about those Mum’s who don’t (My DD doesn’t.) If they are used to buying milk in town, and can’t get any regularly, I can see there would be a problem.
Or Boots could (radical idea I know) massively increase their stock. City centre main Boots is HUGE and there are many empty units in that shopping centre.
Just imagine all the extra profit they could make.
It seems that all the managers of stores in the region need to Do more to stop this problem.Have you emailed them, and ask your DD and all her friends to do the same?
