In wartime, the country has a centrist economy where the government has very strong control over the means of production and transportation and division of what means are available.

In peacetime we live in a solely capitalist society were competition in all aspects of life and business are at the centre.

Brexit ( especially a Nno deal Brexit ) will increase the capitalist competition and if the economy declines then it will be the strongest that survive as paramount, while those least likely to be able to change their circumstance will sustain the most loss.

Also pulling together means (to me) not moaning and accepting a period of (some) shortages (not medicines before jura2 jumps in here about isotopes).

Plans are on going. There is more talking behind the scenes now with the E.U. (who said on here once that their negotiation team had disbanded and ‘there would be no one to talk to’ haha!).

Urmstongrann, in regard to your post @-09:08 today, whatever the government has (or has not carried out) in preparation for Brexit, it will be the overall medium and long term commercial scene that will ultimately decide what happen to many businesses in Britain.

Should businesses decide to relocate their centre of operations to the European Union or elsewhere in the world, then that ultimately will affect suppliers to those Buissneses and in that the overall living standards of very many who reside in the United Kindom.

That is because they are lying Gonegirl (Fri 30-Aug-19 09:10:00). You cannot tell other countries you will go for a no-deal while your polls say only a third of the electorate back it and then expect the other countries to believe it.

The ERG (and you apparently) certainly want only a no-deal. The Liberals want only total remain as we are now (there must be a short form for that). They have both been the downfall of those in the centre who accepted that things have to change - particularly politically - and would have backed a good deal.

You do realise, don't you that, as polls go, that one was not at all rigorous as most nationally quoted polls are as the 'sample' was entirely self selected. A proper poll has a sample which the pollster selects to be representative of all shades of opinion, not just those from a particular bubble.

I'd also point out that demographic changes mean that the electorate now is no longer the same as the electorate of 3 years ago.

Polling over the last year or so tells a different story. But just go on thinking that more people agree with you than disagree if it makes you happy...

Urmstongran, thank you, yes that's exactly what I meant by "pulling together". Going by this thread, it's pretty obvious how difficult it has, and will be, to negotiate any kind of deal or extraction out of the EU. I think if you voted in the referendum, by your participation, you agreed to accept and abide by the result. We are all grown-ups and whether the Leave campaign or Remain campaign told lies, there was ample information out there and available to make our own decision on how one was going to vote. We have had three years of turmoil, that has for sure weakened the country, We cannot continue in this way, the government we now have, have made decisive decisions and whether you agree or not with the methods, it certainly is moving things along. I can see why Remainers are apprehensive about the future, We are moving into a new era for this country. "Charity begins at home" as the saying goes but the saying continues, "so says the world" We need to sort our own affairs and country before we can be of help and assistance to other countries. I am not anti- French, German, Italian etc, We all have something to offer one another but the "EU Commission " is no longer the mechanism to assist or enable it. There is an recent member country of the EU that is very close to my heart, it is booming , in part because of its membetship of the EU, money is flooding the country but what it is losing in the process is unbelievable.
