I know this is such a difficult time for those in the UK but having visited so many parts of the UK please remember what a great place it is and that there is so much to celebrate and cherish. Mon 22-Jul-19 11:23:04
I don't think anyone has forgotten Apricity. This is a news and politics thread, however, and in those areas, things are not so bright and for many of us, they are devastating. We all love our country and it is a right-wing trope to suggest that we don't simply because we disagree with someone else's politics. That is the start down a very nasty authoritarian road. Trump is doing the same suggesting the four women he has attacked (in order to secure his political base) are "incapable of loving our country".
It's rubbish and I expect the right on here are well aware it is a fallacious argument. Have a "chat" thread on this by all means but I am very aware that loving my country is about helping my country to do better; educating myself to be the best I can be and being knowledgable, ensuring that knowledge is based on fact, not fiction. Paying my taxes, seeing everyone around me as an equal however they define themselves. And it is about being prepared to stand up for my country even when attacked for doing so.
I am sure others can add what means loving their country to them but the sun coming up in the morning and the beautiful countryside is not politics or news and are mainly nothing to do with those living here.
