Good News about Brexit! ✅

More than one in five persons in the UK workforce now are employed in the Gig Economy but are classed as full time self-employed.

Those people have no guaranteed hours, no sick pay, no holiday pay and no maturity or paternity rights. That is the nature of employment in Britain today and are hidden in the Tory employment figures.

The terms that these poor employers offer under Gig Economy employment make up a large part of what is known as "the race to the bottom."

Some more GOOD NEWS to share regarding our exit from the EU in 7 days (or just a few days longer depending on how it goes on Tuesday night!)

The Chairman of the ports of Boulogne-Calais, Jean-Marc Puissesseau, told Radio 4's Today programme that if there is a 'no-deal Brexit' on 29th March "the trucks will be passing just as they are doing today. . “The scaremongering about no-deal has got to stop” he said.

Take a recommend that man. ??

That statement was made on the back of spending a lot of time in those countries. Not in hotels where your maybe not exposed to poverty but shopping in local markets, eating and socialising with local folk. It's real, very real.

It had become obvious that it couldn’t be done soon due to the antics in Parliament.This has pushed it further down the road, yet more worry for businesses who wonder what will happen.MP’s have to get a grip.

I agree Lemongrove with you on the further uncertainty to business due to the extension time. However, as the joint letter from the CBI and the TUC demonstrated, a no deal scenario would be far worse in their view.

THE vast majority of British businesses believe they have prepared for a no-deal Brexit, according to the Bank of England, taking steps to handle a disorderly departure from the EU that could happen next Friday.

Eight in 10 companies have taken ­action, for instance by building up stocks of materials in case of disruption to imports. This is up from 50pc of businesses who had taken preparations in January.

Not according to CBI Director Carolyn Fairbairn who says only 4% of businesses are prepared for a crashout brexit.

The EU admitted it didn't want borders to be a problem - it's in their interests too to keep things moving. Electronic recognition has been used for ages - stamping documents and queuing is so yesterday. The hold ups/lorry queues we do experience here are because of bad weather, industrial action at the ports or ferry-companies or the tunnel having problems, etc, etc, etc. Cargo and origin/destination is rarely the problem.

I wonder if Remainers will be gutted when their doom-fantasies or the cliff-edge scenarios don't materialise?

I am staying optimistic that the future is bright.

Perhaps they are waiting to see what will be, like most sensible people? Perhaps they don't envisage the hell and chaos and end-of-the-world scenario that you do?

This is a bit like the Millennium moment - at midnight everything was going to crash, according to some. Our computers wouldn't be able to cope. Life would be chaotic.

The 1st January 2000 dawned the same as every other day and life went on.

I am thinking of setting up a therapy service for exhausted, wrecked, stressed-out Remainers - they are going to need something when we eventually exit the EU. Could be a nice little earner.

Can anyone on the leavers side actually say what they are wanting back ? What is it we lost ? As I have never missed or noticed losing any single thing since joining with Europe

When do you predict the 'faltering EU' will sink?
What have we achieved? Do you mean successful WTO negotiations? Do you mean another 'strong and stable' government? They really will have to be strong and stable to get us out of the mess WE have created. Have you any idea how this transformation will come about, short of a miracle?

The comparison with the "millenium bug" threat is absurd. A lot of IT workers were able to ensure that did not happen by sorting the software. The work involved in that, though considerable, was not a tiny fraction of the task of avoiding the effects of a crashout brexit, or clearing up the mess.
