Seemingly there are a lot of Syrian refugees in Ethiopia because the Ethiopians have banned them from begging. What a strange country to send refugees where its peoples are already impoverished. There have been more and more refugees in recent months.
The Ethiopians are a proud race of people and it's not fair nor right that they should be burdened with these people. It's their deputy head of immigration who made the ruling about begging. It sounds like another country ruled by twits !
It depends by the definition of a lot of Syrian refugees.
There are a few hundred who made their own way there some time ago, some are working and presumably some have no means of support so are begging. Some are working in restaurants etc - Ethiopia is very poor but not everyone there is impoverished; perhaps the refugees are encroaching on the 'turf' of Ethiopian beggars?
Who are you saying sent them?
These few hundred are a tiny proportion of the approximately 11 million Syrians who have been displaced by this war.
I don't know who sent them, but this was news at the beginning of the year. We probably have about 10,000 Syrian refugees with a figure of 20,000 reached by 2020. There are only so many that we can take here though I can't understand where they're all going to live, etc.
And for those who think it's all over, on my FB page:
Today's news from The White Helmets:
12 people including seven children and a woman were killed, and 44 others including 17 women and four children were injured so far, after four airstrikes by the Russian warplanes targeted the residential neighbourhoods in #Idlib city this yesterday afternoon. Our #WhiteHelmets working to retrieve the victims and extinguishing the fires that erupted after air raids. #Syria
When you say we I am assuming that you mean the UK has taken in some refugees EllanVannin - probably a few hundred from Syria. Out of approximately 11 million displaced people, many of whom do want to go home and rebuild their country.
Refugees are being given the right to work in Scotland ,makes sense surely when people have qualifications and are prevented from earning a living using them. And BEFORE someone says they're taking OUR jobs ..if anyone wanted the jobs there wouldn't be vacancies
I've never understood why, if they have the qualifications they cannot work - if in the NHS then presumably they could take the same English examination as other overseas applicants.
paddyann, I didn't know that. Its all wrong that refugees and asylum seekers are not allowed to work. They survive on a pittance and they want to contribute.
