Cameron gave into pressure from his schoolboy chums, the Eurosceptics, so disruptive in the Tory party, the ones that Major called ‘the bastards’ and still does.
Cameron gambled that Remain would win because no one sane would vote against it and at last he could put the bastards and their pressures aside.
BUT He underestimated the rumbling discontent of the unprivileged who saw it as a chance to shake things up. Unlike France and Germany, the UK had put no cap on the amount of the new EU members from the old soviet bloc, low wage countries, that could come here to work. It was a mistake and it was massively exploited by Leave.
It is interesting that the areas who have the largest amount of immigrants voted Remain. Those without any voted on fear from Leave.
I wasn’t at all surprised Cameron walked out on losing, implying ‘come on you Leavers sort this mess out’ But they didn’t they ran away.
So everyone was kind of relieved when sensible Theresa steadied the boat but really it was always going to sink. We’d have been better off for a passionate Leaver to have taken the helm over two years ago and crashed it to smithereens instead of being left with this leaking lifeboat.
The Leavers illusions have been bolstered they are now threatening massive unrest if their Will is overthrown. For that reason it is Theresa who is to blame for keeping this leaky damaged boat afloat. Every sensible person should have left and let the Leavers do it. They should have been made to.
We are heading for the rocks and maybe a new leader will emerge. We don’t know who yet though. That or we crash. A lot of people want to crash. They might think ‘you can’t fall off the floor - where they are. They know they will not gain but will enjoy others pain because they think the system unfair and they deserve it.
It’s a mutiny. Nothing progressive to be gained from it. Of course Cameron walked away when he saw the disaster ahead.
I am a hard Remainer and keep my fingers crossed. I was a supporter of Corbyn till his behaviour on Brexit changed that. His failure to inspire his young followers to vote to stay In. His three line whip on article 50. His limpness over it all in a misguided belief it will get him into power. Unfortunately he has lost the respect of many.
