"I've been sat up in bed for hours, whisky on the bedside table, soft jazz playing in the background, trying to think if I've ever worked with a more idiotic bunch of self centred bastards in my nearly 50 years as a MP.

Nope, still can't think of any. Time for another bottle."

Made me chuckle!

janeainsworth Fri 16-Nov-18 16:38:01

No, surely none of you thought it was 'fake news', really?

That's the point, Nonnie. People did think it was the real Ken Clarke.

How would you feel if people posted on social media using your name, pretending to be you, and using dreadful expressions like 'I've been sat up in bed'? grin

I'm joking of course, but there is a serious point about re-tweeting and re-posting. People have been tricked into re-posting seemingly innocent memes which have been originally posted by far from innocent organisations. They thus bring those organisations to a wider public.
You have to be sure that what you're promulgating is from who you think it is.

maryeliza54 Fri 16-Nov-18 16:40:00

Oh flipping ‘eck Nonnie .theres nothing wrong with anyone posting a spoof tweet for a laugh but people should know it’s spoof surely.

Nonnie Fri 16-Nov-18 16:43:11

But it is innocent, just read it! It doesn't try to influence anyone, it doesn't name anyone, it is harmless.

In answer to how I would feel, I have shared the Facebook post which says something along the lines of: If you see a post from me saying their, when it should be there send help, I have been kidnapped! I wouldn't expect anyone to believe I had posted anything out of character because none of my friends would believe it! As someone said up thread, he probably wishes he had said it.

Maybe you should read it again and then you will see it is a simple bit of harmless fun!

M0nica Fri 16-Nov-18 18:17:29

What a lot of fuss about a bit of harmless fun.

Eloethan Sat 17-Nov-18 00:37:32

I suppose I should have spotted that it was fake but my initial reaction was that it was real. I wouldn't be surprised if it reflects some of his feelings though.

Although it was funny, I do think that it is quite important that people should be able to trust that the comments they read actually come from the person they are attributed to.

Granstender Sat 17-Nov-18 09:27:59

Nonnie, thanks for posting. Made me chuckle too. And that was my first laugh since flu got me in its grip five days ago. Ended in a fit of coughing, but well worth it!

GabriellaG Sat 17-Nov-18 09:28:07

KC should be ashamed.
'as a MP'?
It would have been appropriate had he written 'Member of Parliament' in full, not 'A MP'. shock

GabriellaG Sat 17-Nov-18 09:30:26

Sat/ sitting. Depends where you live. For some, it's regional.

EllanVannin Sat 17-Nov-18 09:36:45

Ken Clarke has always been " human " anyway. He doesn't care if it snows !

SqueezedMiddleG Sat 17-Nov-18 09:55:25

I think it's fake because Ken Clarke is old enough to have been taught traditional English grammar. 'I've been sat' is passive and therefore implies that someone sat him in bed. As far as I am aware, he is still perfectly capable of putting himself to bed. It should be 'I've been sitting' - the active present perfect progressive form of the verb 'to sit'.

Nanny23 Sat 17-Nov-18 10:12:37

Made me laugh Nonnie. Thought you were the one sitting up in bed with a glass of whisky for a minute! smile

GillT57 Sat 17-Nov-18 10:20:17

Well, I think KC would be quite happy with this fake twitter and likely wishes he had written it as it sums up his true feelings! A few people on here need to lighten up as well, we don't need grammar corrections or posters being affronted on KC's behalf.

Mal44 Sat 17-Nov-18 10:21:52

I thought your post was very funny Nonnie and lifted the gloom surrounding Brexit.I think K C would have found it amusing and would not have been offended.Thankyou.

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 10:28:20

Thanks folks for taking it as it was meant. Some amusing stuff on The Daily Mash as well but I won't share in case anyone really believes it!

Nanny23 nope, it would be brandy in my case, never whisky!

Sheilasue Sat 17-Nov-18 10:33:42

No I don’t vote Tory either but have never known such a lot of nasty people I feel quite sorry for Mrs. May, I am hoping they don’t get her to resign. Apparently after that awful meeting her h was waiting for her with a large whisky.
Think I would have wanted two large whiskies,
There an awful bunch. Two faced and dodgy god help us if any of them come to get her job. Good old ken say it like it is.

maryeliza54 Sat 17-Nov-18 11:03:20

Oh stop it Nonnie disingenuousness doesn’t suit you. There is nothing wrong with posting anything jokey or fake as long as it isn’t presented as true and you know that. When you posted it you thought it was true. It wasn’t. End of. Thank you for the few voices on here that think truth matters especially in this post DT world of ours.

GillT57 Sat 17-Nov-18 11:09:46

I read Daily Mash too Nonnie and my favourite is News Thump, although they admit it is hard to post stuff at the moment as with Brexit and Trump fact is proving more weird than fiction.
Just ignore the killjoys, we need a bit of intelligent political comedy fiction on here to counteract the real political comedy going on in real life!

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 11:17:03

No mayeliza you don't know me, you don't know my sense of humour but you clearly think you do! My mistake was in assuming everyone would be amused, I didn't allow for anyone taking it seriously!

Yes Gill killjoys is right but I can't help it if some don't like it, it is their lives not mine. It is clear that most of the posters have enjoyed it.

Politics is so dire at the moment we need things to lighten it if only for a moment. The Daily Mash Brexit stuff has given me a few smiles. Who do you think should be next in line for Brexit Secretary? I think it should be John Culshaw! grin

petra Sat 17-Nov-18 11:18:29

Mine wasn't a grammar correction.
If someone retweeted that Petra had said i was sat etc they would know it wasn't me as no one in Southend says "I was sat
Whereas if someone retweeted something from my friend in Doncaster, I would probably believe it.

Willow10 Sat 17-Nov-18 11:22:55

I enjoyed it anyway Nonnie and I don't really care who wrote it! Thank you for the giggle! (Grin)

Urmstongran Sat 17-Nov-18 11:26:36

Well I enjoyed the chuckle nonnie thanks for posting...we could all do with a giggle now and again, even (or especially) in this political climate!
That said, I don’t like the arrogance of KC. Another Remainer MP (like Amber Rudd) who doesn’t reflect the views of their Leave constituencies. Grrr!

GillT57 Sat 17-Nov-18 11:29:43

Nonnie it has been suggested that Larry, the Downing Street cat should be the next Brexit secretary. Like all cats, he would bother you to go out and then change his mind.

Hm999 Sat 17-Nov-18 11:30:21

Thanks Nonnie), made me laugh too. (Unfortunately it was Clarke who, as Chancellor started the women's pension debacle, so I'm not a fan)

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 11:44:02

Gill grin

JanaNana Sat 17-Nov-18 11:47:11

It gave me a laugh Nonnie, even if it was,nt him you could imagine him thinking it!
