"I've been sat up in bed for hours, whisky on the bedside table, soft jazz playing in the background, trying to think if I've ever worked with a more idiotic bunch of self centred bastards in my nearly 50 years as a MP.

Nope, still can't think of any. Time for another bottle."

Made me chuckle!

Correcting other people’s grammar is the height of bad manners. What makes people so rude and pretentious, I wonder?

oldbatty Mon 19-Nov-18 08:15:44

trendy......I have hid/rehid.....is another one.

I live in the East Midlands and still don’ ‘t accept that excuse! ? Local dialect is fascinating but I don’t think Ken Clarke would use that term . He lives in the posh bit of Nottingham - next door but one to a friend of mine.Think she’s had a few disagreements with him over the years! ?

Hm999 Sun 18-Nov-18 21:20:42

Clarke is an East Midlands lad. I think (and I may be wrong) that 'I was sat up in bed..' is acceptable local parlance

trendygran Sun 18-Nov-18 20:33:43

Old batty. Definitely should be ‘sitting’ So many people now say ‘sat’ . instead, which means that someone must have manhandled ( sorry-person handled) them into or onto, wherever they are sitting.
So much bad grammar around .. no longer well and truly told off if use incorrect grammar in schoolwork.
There (a place):and their( belonging to ) are the common mistakes which drive me mad.
Can’ t help being a stickler for good grammar after being taught it so strictly at primary school.

Don't bother Elrel it is just so unimportant with all else that is going on I just thought we could all have a laugh. Should have known better.

Fight, fight!! Shall I hold the coats?!

Ken Clarke is likeable, intelligent, humorous and the best leader the Conservatives never had.
I recognised the OP wasn't genuine because of the grammar but I enjoyed it. I imagine KC enjoyed it as well.

Can't stand Corbyn because he wears socks with sandals.

MaizieD Sat 17-Nov-18 21:29:14

What an extraordinary reason for not liking someone,Marieeliz shock

Marieeliz Sat 17-Nov-18 20:35:50

Can't stand Ken Clarke, he wears suede shoes, he must be odd.

Willow10 Sat 17-Nov-18 18:16:51

Yawn. Bored now.

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 16:55:35

jane whatever! Some enjoy finding fault some don't, some have a sense of humour, some don't, some can see what is genuine and some can't, some can see what was supposed to amuse and some can't. Post whatever makes you feel good, I do.

janeainsworth Sat 17-Nov-18 16:34:16

Agree with you Willow. Why do some people get a kick out of having a go/points scoring or whatever?

Suggesting that there might be a different way of looking at something isn’t ‘having a go’ or ‘point scoring’ nonnie.
That comment was below the belt, especially in view of your earlier claims that this was supposed to be a ‘light-hearted’ thread.
No one was having a go at you personally, or point-scoring.

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 13:14:37

Oooh I'm listening to the Now Show, was that really Jacob Rees Mogg? Should I complain that they didn't tell me it was someone else?

HootyMcOwlface Sat 17-Nov-18 12:45:44

True or not true I enjoyed it Nonnie.

A bit of bah humbug going on here though isn't there, lighten up people, Ken is big enough to take it.

Nonnie Sat 17-Nov-18 12:44:42

No we won't agree, I think you are the one missing the point. How on earth can you decide whether I knew it was genuine or not and anyway who cares? I really can't be bothered any more. However, it is good to know that so many Gns did appreciate it.

Agree with you Willow. Why do some people get a kick out of having a go/points scoring or whatever?

Willow10 Sat 17-Nov-18 12:36:05

For goodness sake - get a life! It was just meant as a bit of fun! Why do people always have to be so PC?

oldgimmer1 Sat 17-Nov-18 12:34:21

For the pedants among us, I believe the correct form of "I was sat" is "I was seated". smile

maryeliza54 Sat 17-Nov-18 12:09:00

Nonnie of course I don’t know you or your sense of humour -you are completely missing my point which is for the final time that you posted something that you thought was a genuine tweet and it wasn’t. Whether it was funny or not is a completely different point. It’s not being a kill joy to point out that it was a spoof tweet which you didn’t know when you posted it. Nothing more to say really is there? We won’t agree on the importance of truth over humour will we?
