The government could if they wished lemon begin an immediate social housing building initiative. They could introduce rent contracts so that private landlords stop increasing the rent families pay, forcing them out of their homes so that at least for a fixed term the family is safe. Did you actually look at the figures?

Councils up and down the land try and house people, which is a nightmare for them as there are too many people chasing too few houses.No government has built enough social housing going back decades, but in the last ten years the population has grown tremendously.
Churches and charities do wonderful work too.
Drug use has proliferated, we all know that, contributing to the problem of homelessness.
None of us need a lecture from you trisher on this.

Ah lemon your usual level of compassion and concern I see. Homelessness and poverty can never be entirely eradicated At least trying might be a good idea. Did you really look at the homeless figures? The families who are in temporary accommodation (which is actually very expensive and is syphoning public money into private landlord's hands)

The National Strike was across the country , called by the TUC, the miners were ‘locked out’ before the strike, mine owners wanted them to work longer hours for less pay, after the strike was called off the miners were still ‘locked out’ so a waste of time and yet again let down by the unions

Nobody on here is saying anything unpleasant about charities and churches giving meals or food items, rather saying there is not the grinding poverty there was in the past, which is a fact.Homelessness and poverty can never be entirely eradicated since it isn’t all about money, there are differing factors at play.

There is no comparison between a families of small children starving and men / women on the streets being hungry. Your knowledge of the National Strike is very limited trisher. I have diaries written by a man who was hands on during the strike and the depression, no comparison with those who are hungry today.

Shame on you to try to compare them.

I repeat you said there are no soup kitchens, there are. They are feeding the homeless, which apparenntly you didn't know.
GG13 posted about the causes of homelessness. I posted a link which explains the true extent of the problem much of which is hidden.
I then was asked to be compassionate towards posters on GN and I said I would show as much compassion as they did and as you continue to do Annie. That's just telling it as it is. You haven't posted anything about soup kitchens feeding the homeless apart from how it isn't the same as historical soup kitchens, which it seems to me is pretty much the same as saying they don't deserve feeding (which is what the unmentionable political movement thought).

I have no problem with mentioning the homeless or concern for the homeless, I dislike the use of the homeless as a weapon.

Annie having denied soup kitchens exist now and having dismissed them feeding homeless people as ^ do not compare feeding the homeless now with feeding families in the general strike^ you now seem to be objecting to any mention of the homeless. What is it? Does the shocking reality of some people's lives in 2018 upset you?

I will be as compassionate to other posters GG13 as they are to those who cannot speak on this thread for themselves that is the rough sleepers being fed by soup kitchens.

There have been many studies of homeless people, some are there because of job loss, because of family fall outs, some due to addiction and some because they would rather be there with their "homeless families" than any where else.

I have faith in god, what has that got to do with politics. I believe that anyone can become what they want to be with time, determination and passion for what they want/believe.

From what I have seen in the political threads, those speak out compassion are showing themselves up to be the least compassionate to other posters.

Rubbish, those dead children and their families, needed justice , my uncle went to work in hoovers that morning, his wife died in the family home and his two sons in the school, no children, no wife, no house, you talk of a bloody tribute , justice was wanted, justice denied thanks to the unions.
