Thanks PECS, that is exactly what she said. It's what prompted my long post about the way in which my own families experiences informs my politics and feelings about oppression and disadvantage.

Hodge equated her position in the Labour party inquiry with those families waiting for the Nazi henchmen to come for them and transport them to those camps.

As stated how low can any person sink in equating their position in an inquiry to that of those families.

Margaret Hodge did not equate her position in the party inquiry with the death camps.

Iam64 yes I have visited he Auschwitz death camp when my wife, me and a group of lifelong friends took a football tour holiday which between matches took in the death camp and the famous battlefields and cemeteries of the first and second world war.

No one can be anything else but the most deeply moved of their life in going round that camp and for Margaret Hodge to equate that to her position in the Labour Party inquiry in nothing short of being the lowest of the low.

In that, will never give anyone any apology for that statement.

PECS you're right of course, the more resources people have, the more resourceful they're likely to be able to be. I've three friends who were sent on the kinder transport from Vienna. They were fostered by families in the UK and went on to have successful careers in which they contributed significantly to the country that gave them shelter.
I agree, it doesn't matter where in the world those who have been victimised and oppressed are fleeing from, what matters is that they are given assistance in more stable, economically viable countries.

It is true in any war situation that the middle class / those with more easy access to money can often flee the conflict more easily than poorer folk. That is a simple fact.
I am totally against ethnic and cultural cleansing no matter who the victims are: Jews, Rohingya Muslims Palestinians & other minority groups that have been victimised and oppressed. I have been an active in campaigning for the humanitarian rights of people under threat for very many years.

And, of course, we could go back to the Russian Anti-Jewish Pogroms too.

Grandad, Margaret Hodge visited Auschwitz and talked about seeing a suitcase with the initials of her uncle, who died there. She was clear, she'd no idea if the suitcase belonged to her Uncle but said she found it chilling to see that. Many of her relatives were killed by the Nazis.
I'm sure none of this will change your views of her. Have you visited any of the camps or the memorials in Germany ?

Poland has always been less wealthy or economically successful than Germany. Jewish people were subjected to anti semitism in Poland before the Nazis arrived. After the war, some Jewish people who survived Auschwitz returned to Krakow, to be murdered by native Polish people.

And your remarks about Margaret Hodge are becoming more and more unpleasant and unacceptable. No doubt she knows a lot more than you do about the death camps, unless, of course, you lost relatives in them.

She said nothing whatsoever like that but it seems that what she has said has been misinterpreted. Fake news.

Yes, for once we agree lemongrove. I feel that many in executive positions in both main parties including Jeremy Corbyn could benefit from visiting the death camps.

The above persons should also contain Margaret Hodge, as that experience may bring it home to her that the investigation by the Labour party into her actions has absolutely no resemblance to what those men, women and children went through in awaiting the Nazi henchmen coming for them.

I think Corbyn and maybe others would do well to visit one of the death camps.

Jalima, I think you should say the wealthy ones not the lucky ones were able to flee, this is the opinion of some here.

Corbyn was invited to visit the Museum of Remembrance in Israel but he refused , claimed he was too busy. He found time to be present at the laying of a wreath in remembrance of terrorists but to be fair he doesn’t think he was involved !

maddyone thank you I found the article. Can we clarify that 252 statements were investigated, the article did not say how many of these were found to be LP members. It is shocking but not necessarily a party issue. There is of course anti-semitism everywhere in society and comments on social media are not necessarily from party supporters.
