R.I.P. Michele Hanson

Absolutely dj. She wrote about the indignities of ageing, and had looked after her elderly mum so she would have hated to have suffered that fate.

Really sad.
Couldn't imagine her in an old people's home, with dementia, though.
The right way to go?

Oh what a shame. I really liked Michelle Hanson. We stopped getting the Guardian a few years ago and I haven't kept up with her writing. I should have done because she was such a feisty writer.

Never stopped being cross, never lost her socialist credentials. Big family person. Adored her dogs.

We don't have the Guardian but, having just read up on her, I think I've been missing something rather special .

I didn't think I knew who she was, but I clicked on the link, I realised I do know her. She was sweet and funny and seemed much younger than her years. I can't believe she was 75! How very sad, although she'll be glad to have bypassed the old folks home.

Oh no! I didn't know until read it here . I have followed her in the Guardian for years, she used to write about her daughter "Treasure" as a troublesome teen, and I love her current weekly column. She wrote so wittily about ageing, was passionate about social injustices, a dog lover and proud socialist. I shall miss her tremendously. It was the teenage 'Treasure' that always amused me. I had a DD of similar age (but less 'challenging')

Apparently it was a stroke while she was out walking the dogs.

I am truly sad to hear this. It's only a few days since her last column was published. Was it unexpected?
