Much rather the money was spent on the NHS.

cold I think the biometrics make it more than a cardboard covered booklet. If it was a simple thing to produce, it would be a simple thing to fake.
I think that chart explains why the decision was made Jen - a simple, superficial change that will please millions of people.

I would imagine that most of the UK population who are under about 35 are distinctly underwhelmed about 'getting back' something they've never had... (and, statistically, they don't want anyway..)

The way things are going a lot of us won't be able to afford holidays anyway ...

Well, I am still - if mine has to be renewed next year then presumably I will get a bergundy red one which will be valid for 10 years so may never get a blue one.

I don't care really, as long as it is the same size therefore fits into the pocket in the bag I use when travelling.

I do wonder how many of those who made such a fuss about having dark blue passports back - never actually had one of the Burgundy ones, and never ever intend to go anywhere 'foreign' (Gawd forbid). Skeggy anyone?

This is Brexit lunacy.

When brexiteers were asked what they wanted to bring back, the blue passport was number two.
Top was hanging.

Yes Cold the pic shows a lighter version of the old style one, although certainly not the EU bright blue colour.

The point is lemongrove, that we have NEVER had blue passports (some would call it 'Tory blue') - so we are NOT having our blue passports back.

Mine is up for renewal in 2019 so I'm not sure which type I'll get. Although I'll probably use my other passport so I can keep going through the EU channel and not have to queue at the non-EU immigration desks

It doesn’t look like the EU blue in the pic Cold it looks very similar to the old British passport colour to me.

All the news programmes that I've seen today say that the blue is a fair bit lighter than the old hardback passports. The old-style ones were a very dark navy that looked almost black

I don't see how it is hugely money making? The printing costs are a fraction of the overall cost. I'm actually surprised is costs them £7 to mass-produce a cardboard covered booklet. Most of the cost in issuing passports is the admin work of checking the form, assessing eligibility, background checks and adding the biometric data that is not included in basic printing etc

I’m looking forward to reverting back to blue, but we’ll just miss out. May not live long enough for the next renewal! Blue is so much classier!

Not sure why they have gone for the lighter-blue colour (or EU flag blue as many are calling it). The new ones look very cheap - remind me of my first building society account book

Primrose yes, a reasonable cost, so why is anybody getting hot under the collar about it?
