More Brexit lunacy

We knew that the wealthier remain areas would be less affected than the more deprived Brexit voting areas, I wonder if some Brexit voters believed the lie that Brexit would mean the end of austerity, as we would be “saving”so much money out of the EU. Of course the really wealthy Brexiteers will be fine - less regulation, more opportunities for tax avoidance etc.

According to the other place the DUP was at the EFTA meeting today, which puts it in (at the moment) direct conflict with the government.

Unfortunately it might take something like Nissan to leave this country to bring everyone to their senses. Aren't Unilever thinking about relocating? [which would be sad as that is a remain area I believe].

I think they are even more worried now than for the last few months - how many more companies will take their work elsewhere till people start to believe and realise.

Guardian outlines part of the December 2017 agreement made and signed off between the government and EU.

Paragraph 49 of the agreement states, “the U.K. will maintain full alignment with those rules of the customs union, which now or in the future support the all-island economy and the protection of the 1998 (Good Friday) agreement.

No one in the government is able to reconcile the above signed agreement and leaving the customs union.
The Irish Government, tired of being patronised will not let the U.K. government off the hook.

If the U.K. government rejects the December agreement, it rejects any deal with the EU.

Well Nissan were against brexit from the start even though the leave campaign put in their leaflet that Nissan supported them#dirtytricks

Japan has been worried from the very start about Brexit - Nissan etc looms large and whom will be very affected.

Anyone seen the papers published by the EU about the food industry? Ooh Er! I wonde& how many farmers and small food exporters have read them.

I saw a report today that Japan has requested an urgent meeting with the Govt.

Not only by leaving we will shoot off our foot, we will shoot our leg off as well and disable ourselves for years to come. Most of us on here will never see the end of the downturn.

Just looking at the figures.

The absolute irony is that London who voted remain and wanted Brexit least of all, is set to suffer economically least of all.

The North West who seemed to want it most will suffer the most.

Rachel Sylvester writes (in The Times) that a second Brexit poll, which once seemed politically out of the question, is now moving into the realms of the possible. Nobody wants a re-run of the divisive and depressing 2016 referendum, but momentum is slowly but surely gathering behind the idea of giving the people the chance to approve or reject the prime minister’s deal. She points out that the British people had no facts about Brexit when they voted for it. Once they have the details of our future relationship with the EU, they should have the right to decide what they think about it. Nobody knows what the result would be, but at least the question would then be resolved.

Good article by Caitlin Moran in The Times supplement 27/1 [which I'm afraid I don't know how to do a link to], saying how social media has given many unpleasant people a voice and giving carte blanche to those who want to behave in a racist way [have just been told of another case of someone who was followed by several youths after speaking Russian to a friend in a pub; only escaped being beaten up by telling them he was semi famous and the press would have a field day with them]. There is a 'brexit' film at our cinema next week which we need to go to [there is a discussion afterwards] but I'm dreading having to sit through a film where so many brexiters give their views, even though I do need to hear what they say. It will be interesting to see just who turns up to see this film but as it's at an indie cinema part financed by the EU and showing many films part financed by Europe I think I can guess which side the audience will be supporting. Not looking forward to it, though...

I think that the cost of changing the passport might just be a silly rumour - when we went from the blue passport to the red ones the blue one was still valid till it ran out and then was changed for the red one.
A similar thing may well happen next time so there would then be no extra cost. The passport office could not cope with the work if everyone needed to change within a tight timescale.

I am a 'Brexiter' and I couldn't give a monkeys about the colour of the passport, and I am furious at the waste of money in changing it. I had my reason to vote Brexit, none of which were little Englander Xenophobic.

Let’s hope that is the case rather than leaving while totally unprepared and no other systems in place.
