Doctors have been told that Hunt is only prepared to negotiate on 1 out of 23 points of the new contract. The new rota system only allows for "home time" as being after 10pm and Sunday's.

Junior doctors will have to work more hours than they do now and are exhausted how so how safe will we be?

I support them

Anniebach Fri 08-Jan-16 12:18:42

Did Jen say she really believes doctors are limiting their hours at weekends as a reaction to Hunt's comments? I saw a question mark on that post

Ana Fri 08-Jan-16 12:26:20

Perhaps the reason some of you (one of you?) find no doctors at weekends now is as a reaction to Hunt's comments.

Seems pretty obvious that durhamjen has actually considered the possibility.

gillybob Fri 08-Jan-16 12:26:50

Perhaps the reason some of you (one of you?) find no doctors at weekends now is as a reaction to Hunt's comments. After all, if somebody told you continually that you were not working when you were, why would you carry on working?

Yes I believe she did Anniebach unless I am following your lead and deliberately misinterpreting the post just for the hell of it. confused

Anniebach Fri 08-Jan-16 13:38:24

Gillybob, your constant sniping doesn't bother me but do not and I repeat do not accuse me of dishonesty, thank you

Anniebach

gillybob Fri 08-Jan-16 13:56:14

Oh Pleeeeeease god give me strength.

I think perhaps Anniebach. You should spend a little time going back through the threads. I think you will find that it is you who have constantly (whether deliberately or otherwise?) twisted what I have been trying to say.

....and as for the sniping. see above.

I have not, and never have, repeat, never have, accused you of lying.

I don't use bad language but I am getting so close to it...

Bowing out now as this is pathetic.

Anniebach Fri 08-Jan-16 14:12:36

You accused me of deliberately misinterpreting posts, for me doing this is accusing me of being dishonest, we obviously have different standards when it comes to being honest, I make mistakes , I mix up names, I apologise if pointed out, I do not deliberately misinterpret or twist posts .

JessM Fri 08-Jan-16 15:09:04

From todays press, including a doctor putting her point of view.

linkis.com/www.mirror.co.uk/new/qXvBC

Let us remember that "junior" means anyone not a consultant. And that on top of all those hours they work they have to do studying and exams at regular intervals.

Anniebach Fri 08-Jan-16 17:29:44

Thank you for the link JessM, what a choice, believe that doctor or Hunt, as the man never thought why are so many doctors leaving this country , if he has I expect he blames the rain

JessM Fri 08-Jan-16 20:49:46

Hunt is getting flak via Twitter for trying to use Paris attacks in official communication.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jeremy-hunts-staff-asked-nhs-7137504
Quote in article:
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: "Trying to politicise the Paris terror attack like this is the lowest politics I've seen in years. Utterly awful."

Anniebach Fri 08-Jan-16 21:16:09

JessM, that is just so wicked, how could he do that, it's sick

granjura Fri 08-Jan-16 21:43:22

Ah well- maybe we should go back to the days, not that long ago, where junior doctors worked between 130 to 140 hrs per week- sometimes a day, the night and the next day on the trot...

JessM Fri 08-Jan-16 21:51:55

That would sort out the shortage of medical staff wouldn't it. Go back to those good old days.

durhamjen Fri 08-Jan-16 22:19:08

Yes, we'd have no staff; they'd all go abroad where they are appreciated.

Gillybob, I know a lot of teachers who took early retirement or went abroad because they were no longer appreciated. I do not see why doctors should not do the same.

What I do not like is the way that Hunt has been saying they do not work. Obviously you have not looked at my link to the I'm in work, jeremy, blog. Neither did Hunt or Cameron, obviously, because they still believe that doctors do not work weekends.

In 1996, my husband fell off a ladder and broke his spine. It was 4 p.m. on a Friday night. The surgeon was on his way home, but came back to operate on him, and save his life.
Another man had fallen over a wall and fractured his neck. The surgeon operated on him, too.

At Easter 2013, I had an aortic dissection, on Maunday Thursday. I was in two different hospitals for over three weeks. There were doctors on the wards at all times in both hospitals.
That was the weekend that the NHS changed to NHSE. 1st April, believe it or not.
Since then Hunt has done nothing but complain about doctors not doing their jobs properly.
So if they do not want to work for him any more, I do not blame them.

Please read something from the doctors' point of view. They are striking as a last resort. Hunt did not think they would. That's why he is doing what he is doing.

I saw that article in the i, JessM. Absolutely disgusting.

Excellent article about why doctors are going on strike.

trisher Sat 09-Jan-16 10:28:37

gillybob So sorry about what happened to your mum it must have been horrible. But I wonder why you blame the doctors for there being none on duty at the time? Doctors are employees, if they are on the rota to work they work-who decides the rota? the managers. There may be many reasons no doctor was there, lack of doctors and lack of money being just 2. Sickness or just a complete mess up are other possibilities. But you should be 100% behind the junior doctors. If Jeremy gets to impose this on the junior doctors they will leave this country in droves and many more patients will be faced with the same situation as your mum because there simply won't be the doctors to provide cover.

Anniebach Sat 09-Jan-16 12:13:50

It is claimed more people die in hospital at weekends than week days, I do question how many would be emergency admissions and patient critical on admission

A nice bit of blackmail.

Hunt's going the right way to make this worse.

Luckylegs9 Sun 10-Jan-16 12:21:17

I do not support the strike, why cannot the doctors man up and discuss the problems as they see it, they haven't been offered such a bad deal, doctors enjoy many privileges that the rest of the population do not. Pension, excellent holidays and a good place in society etc. I have come across some very good doctors and also a few poor ones. A lot of the doctors come here to train, why would they do that if it wasn't good. I am fed up with the lot of them being so intrangeable like a special case.

Luckylegs9 Sun 10-Jan-16 12:22:36

I meant to add that yes a lot of doctors might leave the country after they have used the country to train them.

durhamjen Sun 10-Jan-16 12:24:01

Okay, we'll let the Tories have their way and sell off the NHS to their rich friends, shall we?
Doctors are standing up for the NHS, not just themselves, as you would realise if you read any of their websites.

durhamjen Sun 10-Jan-16 12:24:49

What does intrangeable mean?

Anniebach Sun 10-Jan-16 12:30:16

They pay their tuition fees so why shouldn't they choose to work in another country, they can earn more too and work less hours

This is an excellent guide to the new contract which Hunt still wants to impose on doctors, therby getting rid of more of them.

durhamjen Sun 10-Jan-16 12:32:08

Thereby, obviously.
