House of Lords threatening to show it's muscles

I qoute - The Lords have been threatened by Downing Street - BBC News this morning

Cameron's lie is staring at him straight in the face.

Let's hope the assurances he is giving over the steel problems arn't also a lie.
The Tories have no industrial strategy, they are old fashioned laissez faire supporters. Someone needs to advise them of how the real works now.

Now we are being investigated by the UN because of the violations against disabled people - wonderful!

Latest mantra "we will do everything we can to help"

That should really read "we will cut everything we think we can get away with"

Cameron just said "we don't want to make promises we can't keep"

I hope the Lords stop this tax credits thing going through. It is wrong.

I agree Jingl, it needs phasing in properly. I think now that the government will do something, maybe not a u turn, but something to present a better package all round.

Why do you call him Gideon when he's known as George? Is it a dig of some sort? If so it's pretty pathetic, particularly as parents name children not the child themselves, so it's hardly his fault having a name that he clearly dislikes and has dropped for that reason, which is hardly a reason for others to mock and make fun of!

I can't say I do, as people's names are not something that I judge them by, and I'm not sure that George sounds better politically or would give anyone gravitas when thinking of George Brown, George Wigg, George Galloway, George Grant, need I go on?!! Each to his own I guess, but honestly, a tad childish surely,!

I do admire the young female Tory MP who spoke out yesterday , new to the house and her maiden speech wasn't a - I need to do a bit of crawling if I want promotion

nigglienellie I am with you on thinking this Gideon thing is childish, why not fume about the policies and then we would think more of the poster.It may have been amusing/ surprising to some that his first name wasn't George, but that has long worn off by now.

I would have thought that that was more important.
Before anyone says so, I am well aware that the House of Lords is not democratically elected, but it is the second house in this country. Why should the government be able to threaten the House of Lords?

niggly you may or may not have noticed that I enjoy a debate on the political thread, and you may or may not have noticed that I avoid addressing grans at a personal and name calling level. This does not include GO and anyone else who is intent in causing real sufferi g to the disabled and mentally infirm. Gideon is the least of his names in my opinion.

Any political discussion other than a left wing one would soon be shouted down, so there would be,absolutely no point entering into any dialogue, so I'll leave you all to your posts and move on to something more benign
