I hope it does go through, for you Greatnan and for Absent too of course. It really has been most unfair.

I'm not holding my breath. Meanwhile the DWP is demonstrating its assiduous inefficiency. In spite of a request to pay my state pension into my New Zealand bank account in April – one month before I left the UK – my pension continued to be paid into my UK bank account (fortunately I still had one). In July, a fellow ex-pat advised me to ring the department that deals with ex-pat requests. (I hadn't been aware that there was a specific department and hadn't received a reply to my letter.) A nice man took all the details and said that he would get the pension transferred to my New Zealand bank account but warned me that it could take quite a long time because "everyone was off because of school holidays".

I am glad that the holidays are now more or less over because my pension has not been paid into my New Zealand bank account and nor has it been paid into my UK bank account. Fortunately my other sources of income are sufficient for my needs but the pension would be useful.

Just to mention the fact that we ex-pat pensioners who do get the yearly increases get them because of the EU regulations. The EU is much maligned by a lot of people in the UK and actually large percent of what they do and the laws that they pass, help us all - just thought I'd mention it.

Yes, we do tend to only approve of those EU regulations which benefit us personally. I'm struggling to think of one myself, however!

I can't imagine, but your comment " Why not mention it indeed" came across as unnecessary, patronising and a total put down. If you actually had something to add to the discussion we are still waiting to hear it.

I used the term "we" to refer to the collective group of Gransnetters who have been and may be reading this thread. I assume there's more than just one?

For those of us who are ex-pats who would have been entitled to the annual increases in state pension for the rest of our lives – which could easily be another 20 years or more – but will not get them because of where we live this is a serious issue and a source of great annoyance.
