I *HATE* LLOYDS BANK

Oh, that feels so much better!

I discovered today that a bill I had paid from a Halifax account, now Lloyds, had been returned as the bank declared that the account was fraudulent/corrupted

So I tried to get hold of the bank to find out what was happening.

I rang them up and put all my details in, the website didn't recognise them, so I rang the help line and got a stupid AI system that kept asking me for information, which I gave, and which they then said they did not recognise. Like the account number, entered from the card they sent me only a month ago. Then they decided that did nor recognise my date of birth. All information that had been recognised when I used the account last week.

I decided to try and talk to a real person, but either they do not have any or you can only access then if you have your account number and know your date of birth!!! So we went through the procedure again. At one point they recognised my mobile phone number, but needed my account number, but again did not recognise it when I entered it.

I clearly need to talk to a person to sort this out, but my nearest Lloyds bank is nearly 20 miles away!!!! Meanwhile the account is frozen and I cannot access it

Thankfully it is a joint account, so as soon as I have DH's death registered, I will transfer the account to the Nationwide, where my other accounts are and where there is a local branch.

As an aside, several of the big banks are named in the sealed Epstein files.

M0nica try punching in random letters or numbers when AI ask as that usually gets it to transfer you to a human but no guarantee how long they will answer. This morning dh could not access our Lloyds business account online so rang and eventually was waiting for a human to answer the phone. The message said there was a 20 minute delay but it turned out to be 38 minutes before a lady picked up. Apparently the system is down this morning and they are working to get it up and running - try every hour and see if it works!! Tbf she was very helpful and there were 600 callers trying to get answered.

To check what is happening you have to go into their website and press certain buttons. Why can’t they just put a message out when you ring? Why can’t they employ more staff instead of paying huge obscene amount to the top bosses?

I had to laugh M0nica as your post resonated so much with our experience this morning (Tuesday) but it isn’t really funny especially not in your current circumstance.

My husband had a similar problem after getting locked out of his account with a different bank through no fault of his own ( over enthusiastic security on their end) and he also went around in very frustrating circles.

There's a platform on FaceBook called 'I Hate Santander Bank'.

I dare say there are platforms like this for every bank. Their very cavalier attitude to customers earns these monoliths all the vitriol they get!

I tried opening an account with Lloyds about 30 years ago and they sent me a cheque book in the wrong name. It was my name but wrong, can't remember exactly how, but I was not impressed and closed the account immediately.

I was with TSB for many years, from when I first had my own account. Then the TSB got taken over by Lloyds, then became a standalone bank again, now is part of Santander.

Rosie51 I only spoke of my experience I didn’t say anything at all about Monicas experience

MOnica, the fact its a joint account with you

It entitles you to request the bank's cockup is transferred to the services of the "Bereavement Department" which every bank provides.

BD's tend to be very efficient and much better at speedy customer service.

Gremlins stole part of that post , sorry.

I meant to say

" The fact it's a joint account with your late husband, may save your sanity. It entitles you to request the bank's cockup is transferred to the services of the "Bereavement Department" which every bank provides.

Wasn’t there a celebrity, can’t remember who, that had trouble with a bank closing his account for no reason? Was it Lloyds?

M0nica Tue 20-Oct-26 14:00:33

The bank does not know DH has died. As far as they are concerned it is the same joint account it was three weeks ago. I used it quite successfully last week.

The problem is that anyone reporting a problem with their account has to go through a chat bot to before speaking to areal person. The chat bot wants the account number- before they will put you through to a real person.

I had a similar problem with an electric account a few years ago. it went round in a circle.

The reason the death is not yet registered is because DH died in France and the certificate requires translation and special registration. The added complication is that the people I am told to contact do not know what the rules are either!

What a nightmare situation M0nica hope you manage to get it sorted out quickly.

M0nica Thu 22-Oct-26 16:12:34

Just when you think it cannot get any worse.......!!!!!!!!!

This next episode follows on from my original post.

Having reached a dead end online. I investigated and discovered there was a Lloyds bank hub operational in town, one half day a week - and that the following day. So off I went.

The lady behind the desk was friendly and helpful, or rather would really have liked to be helpful. When I explained the problem she was a bit at a loss. he internet was down (kbown wide spread problem) but in the end she gave me a number that she said was the direct line to the fraud line. So when I got home I rang it and - yes - I got the 'chat bot.'

Today I decided to visit the branch in the town 10 miles away. First checking online what its opening hours were. Off I went, walked up to the branch. It was not only closed, but the front was totally blank, no notices, no opening times, no cash machine. To me it looked permanently closed. Back home.

By this time, I confess, I was in tears -of rage fury,- combined with a strong desire to murder the person who designed the system.

Then I had an idea - Facebook!!!!! I looked up the Lloyds Facebook page and posted the whole sorry saga. It got me a fast reply from Raj, he seems to reply to all Facebook complaints.

His standard apology followed by repeating my complaint as I have made it, suggests to me that Raj, too is a chat bot, but it has got something moving, though I noted that they referred me to their complaints system before they said they were 'looking into' my problem

Yes, go to the top.
Tell them you want to sort everything out then transfer your account elsewhere.

Many thanks. Jaxjacky I may well be using it tomorrow. I can no longer find my post on Facebook. It had a couple of links which I hadn't accessed and saved. I was going back to them when I found they had disappeared.

As it is, with DH's funeral early next week and having to give up so much time to chasing Lloyd Bank, I am behind with a whole series of tasks relating to that. So the rest of the day will be given to that.

M0nica Thu 22-Oct-26 23:02:27

and yet worser ....... I know that is ungrammatical, but I am beyond caring.

Having got up to date with some pressing personal matters I went back online to find my original post and reply the response from Lloyds. When I took in exactly what their response was I nearly had an apoplectic fit (whatever that may be)

I went onto the relevant page to find my original post had been drastically edited, removing all the material about Lloyds and my unsuccessful attempts to contact them and reduced my longer to the following
^I am at my wits end, I am 83, recently widowed and trying to sort out out financial affairs but cannot because I have no access to my account. Bills and card payments are overdue
HELP ME PLEASE:^

Which is absolutely not what I said. my post now contains about 20% or less of my words re-ordered to misrepresent me.

I then went into the website the print bot recommended to discover that the site was nothing but an online site containing phone numbers that all have chat bot front ends. I know this for a fact because they are all just the same numbers I have been ringing all week without success.

I have explored the Facebook page a little more and found that the site they referred me to is the standard one they use for every single person who makes a complaint. Their Facebook pages are run by computers. No human being has anything to do with them, still less read them

Bedtime, I will return to this in the morning. I HATE LLOYDS!!!!!

JenniRen Thu 22-Oct-26 23:12:24

I'm amazed that they can edit and change the meaning of something you posted on Facebook.

Make sure you document everything, time and date.
If you can leave this until after your DH's funeral, could you contact the Financial Ombudsman and/or Martin Lewis?

Apologies if this has already been suggested.

Chestnut Sat 24-Oct-26 00:47:11

Oh boy, you really need to contact Watchdog who will name and shame them on the show. I'm not sure how long that takes, but you could e-mail them in desperation, mark it urgent in the subject line, and maybe they will contact Lloyds immediately to deal with it. These companies do tend to jump when the BBC contacts them.

The banking system seems to have been invented by Franz Kafka - physical branches are closed down but we are advised to make contact with "your nearest branch" to deal face-to-face with any problems.

Bizarre.

Visgir1 Sat 24-Oct-26 08:52:15

It's not just Lloyd's Bank.. My chum was widowed 2 years ago and had a struggle with Coutts Bank considering how much the banking fees are they really caused her grief, and she was speaking to a human.
She closed the account and moved it to Nat West.

Have you tried the direct line to HUMAN agent in the Bereavement Team - 0800 015 0012 (open from 8-6 seven days a week)?

Dickens Sat 24-Oct-26 09:28:54

* 'agents' *

How to Contact the Lloyds Bank Bereavement Team
• Phone Number: Call 0800 015 0012 (available 8am–6pm, 7 days a week)

Might this help M0nica? I found them very helpful when OH died. I am sorry you are being given the runaround at such a difficult time.
