A few months ago they sent me a letter to say I did not need to do self-assessment. Flipping ruined my afternoon

Has anyone else had this? I have done it online just now. What a potch

I’ve got to do one for myself and my late husband. Double the joy. 🙄

Why has it ruined your afternoon karmalady - isn’t it a good thing ?
In the next line you say you have done it online. Am I missing something ?

OH was asked to do one - it's taken him the best part of 3 days to complete it due to an uncertainty about Capital Gains. Luckily we are still in touch with our old accountant who was able to advise

I did the year 25/26 and re-applied to opt ot. They have today sent me a text to say that I am now opted out of self-assessment

Unfortunately I’ve had to do it for years. Once I got the Gateway Code and other bits from HMRC, parts are completed for me online by them, including my DWP. At least there’s as instant calculation and it doesn’t have to be paid until January ‘27. I’m hoping now that I’ve sold a property and declared a Capital Gain, that I can opt out too!
