It might have been a voucher sent to your daughter or HMRC may have opened an account for your granddaughter.

However, did your daughter claim child benefit? Because if not, your granddaughter was most likely not eligible for a child trust fund.

I am assuming your daughter does not know who her Trust Find provider (which bank) is, from what you have said. If she does, your granddaughter can contact the provider.

On the website, the second section is titled ‘Find a Child Trust Fund’. In that section, scroll down u til you see ‘Ask HMRC to find a Child Trust Fund provider. Below that is a green bar which says ‘start now’. Click on that, and it opens the enquiry form.

Your granddaughter will need her National Insurance Number. She can find out if she has one here www.gov.uk/guidance/get-your-national-insurance-number-by-post.

If she does not, then, I’m afraid, she would need to be living in the UK to apply for one.

Thanks but this is what we had already seen. My daughter did not know of the scheme, so did the government open an account. Where is the form to enquire? Neither are living in the UK.

For clarity, your daughter can’t enquire, your granddaughter has to as she is over 16.

Should have added, born 2007 and 2008. Tory government withdrew it in 2010 or 11 I think.

The Labour Government of the time gave every child born in the UK £500 put into a child ISA. Parents could add to it if they so wished. Moneys could not be withdrawn until the child reached the age of 18.

Two of my grandchildren qualified for this savings plan.
